suggestion: non-salt seki models in Magnacut

Post by hobbyist »

I'd love a PE delica and PE endela in magnacut. With their blade shape, not that of the salt or pac salt (yes I know the pac salt is more akin to the endura). I'd also be all over a dragonfly in Magnacut PE, SE, and Wharncliffe PE.

I know getting steel to Japan is an expensive endeavor, but my guess is it would be well worth it.

LC 200 is already offered in Seki models

Other than handle color options MC really brings nothing to the table

Almost forgot SPY27 is also available that is basically a slightly less corrosion resistant MC

Plus, MC seems to be quite expensive and shipping it to Japan and paying tariffs would make for a rather expensive lnife that does nothing that the other two steels can do.

Now, MM that’s a different story…..

I respectfully disagree. But actually along those lines I have found that both LC200N and H2 seem rather close in performance (yes I know that H2's edge retention is quite a bit less but LC200N isn't a monster in that regard either).

Of course if MagnaMax was imminent in Seki, that would work too. K390 is my favorite steel except for the corrosion.

MagnaCut seemed to be too late to the table amongst the Spydie line up, for whatever reason, as Spyderco seemed to be one of the first when it came to introducing MagnaCut to the market via the Mule?

MC is a great steel. Perhaps the absolute best, most well rounded steel, especially for EDC, with above average attributes overall. Truly would be a one-and-done steel, but you know, choice makes that moot. Takes one of the nastiest edges, ever. Pretty much a very stainless CPM Cruwear. Really puzzling that it has seemingly started to receive such discredit and disrespect as time goes on, whilst Cruwear has only ever slowly gained more and more love over time. MC is exactly as it was described, and that more than anything should elicit respect. Zero hype, all unrealistic and unjustified expectation; I can't wait to see the honeymoon end and the same cycle befall MagnaMax, but I digress :eye-roll.

Yes, MagnaCut should be offered on more non-salt based models. I'd buy more Spyderco models (or rather variants of the same models) if it were more available in the models that I carry these days, which admittedly, aren't very many, so for whatever that's worth: Yes. Just make the handle a black G-10, or micarta instead of that yellow. MagnaCut the Temperance 1 & 2; MagnaCut the Swick 5 & 6; MagnaCut the Lil Native Lightweight model format, but with G-10, or micarta handles; Magnacut the upcoming Charisma with a G-10 or micarta handle; MagnaCut the Phil Wilson collaborations; re-run the Mule Team in MagnaCut. Be like Nike and even in the face of all the money you'll make off of the honeymoon phase of MagnaMax, Just Do It, Spyderco. The knife community needs you now more than ever to MagnaCut them all. EraSteel, if you're watching (like we know you are), make a massive melt of MagnaCut and get this into Spyderco's hands, so that they will make this happen. Make MagnaCut the new S30V. Make MagnaCut Magnificent ≈2026.

Unfortunately Sal has previously indicated that MagnaCut won't be making it to Seki. IIRC that's due to the economics of shipping steel over there. Which is a real shame as the core Seki lines (Delica, Endura, Rescue and the matching Salts) don't really have Golden-made equivalents.

Are all Seki steels produced there? Even K390? I hope this isnt the same fate for MagnaMax.

I wonder how much the stee shipping overhead would change the price of the knife? We talking like 20%? Or 500%?

At least in Golden, it would be nice to see S30V go away and everything default to Magnacut.

It would make all of Golden's base models a lot more attractive imo.

Used to be the case, but not recently. Regular production K390 and SPY27 are imports to Japan, as were exclusives in M390, 20CV, CPM M4, S30V, S90V, CPM Cruwear, and probably others I'm forgetting.

I'd like a magnacut salt Endura with an Endura blade. A black handle or gray handle would be good, or OD green.

What I'd really like is a Stretch 2 in Magnacut. I like both blade shapes but have a real softness for the original. On the other hand the straight spine - aka the improved version of the PM2 - is only available in K390 which is a great steel but often too corrosion prone for my use. I'd buy one of each shape in Magnacut, Magnamax or even SPY27.

Probably not what you want to hear but we most likely won't be seeing any Magnacut from Spyderco outside of the Salt Series.

I’d like to see some satin blade models without yellow handles.

I would absolutely love a MagnaCut Stretch.
