Magnamax Mule Rework

#1

Post by Slalomnorth »

I’m excited about the new steel, so I decided to pick one of these up. Not without making my own changes. Reground to about .008” behind the edge, no finger guard, smaller ricasso, different handle shape, hidden pin/partial tang.

Very nice. It's fun to see what you've modified.

Thats a nicely modded mule
Did you match the primary bevel angle when regrinding or did you increase it to keep the spine's thickness?

Now that is some serious modification. I know full well right off the bat I would have that knife broke though...
I am to hard on my tools from time to time and cutting that full tang handle out of mine would be the bitter end of it and sooner than later, with how I would hack at something.

Now, I get how this short of a knife is not best out there for hacking at stuff, but more times than not it will be better choice than my favorite Police4 or Manix 2XL, so it gets used and hard...

How is the weight of this knife now that you have it done? Some amazing modification you did right this for sure. Just how did you put the little animal on the blade after you sanded it?

You would be surprised how strong partial tangs are. Modern day epoxies and handle materials are amazing. This one is a bit on the extreme side but I wouldn’t expect to have any problems. The knife weighs 3.4 oz. I electro etched my logo

I really like the tang replacement with the liners, makes a good uniform result. And the micarta is very nice.
Nice job on the slight regrind too. I need to try that sometimes, maybe make a handbrush satin finish to see how it looks.

Those c-clamps are in my dream frequently. I can't seem to find a european place to buy them at a decent price (cheapest i found is around 60USD per)
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

I just got two of the 3" size of those clamps this past week. I have yet to use them for any project but I like these clamps...

I do not have these skills or tools, but goodness this is inspiring - that finished mule looks like a really excellent user and high-end custom at the same time.
