If I owned an HIC it would get broken knowing my luck. Especially having marble tiles on the floor and my penchant for dropping knives.
Already had to fix the tip on my Jumpmaster 2 I slightly dulled from dropping it today.
If not for my clumsiness. I would be all over the HIC.

Welcome Spook to the forum.

I too have one of the HIC Mules. I have yet to get mine just quite like I like all my knives. I am trying to re-profile it to 15 dps.

You ever tried sharpening it yet? I want to buy one so bad but between my sharpening level of being a good amateur on basic steels and my penchant for dropping knives.
I am scared I am gonna drop the HIC on the floor and break it. Or get pissed off trying to sharpen something beyond my skill level and sharpening set.

You know it's been so busy around here lately, I have not got back to it. I will, it has been the hardest blade I have ever come across to hone out lol.

This didn't start out in good shape to begin with. It was a hot mess at best lol. I did get it honed to 19 dps and it was sharp, but was not a Razor, so here I go and going to get this HIC to a 15 dps.

I got to get back on it though, as the knife is, heck I wouldn't give this thing to someone else lol. Thanks for the interest on this hot mess I got right here lol...

I don't know if 15 dps is suitable for a ceramic knife. I know Rhaven had caught some flack for wider edges. EI suspect edge stability and chipping is a problem at lower degree angles.

Whrn Spyderco themselves don't sharpen it to razor sharpness. That is kind of a red flag to me.

I will be ordering a Mule next month. Choices between SPY27CPM, VG XEOS, AEB-L, and HIC.
I am leaning towards AEB-L and VG XEUS. I wish I had the confidence to handle HIC. That would be my pick.

In order from most limely to least. I present my choices if available next month.

1. VG XEUS. (New and untested. And corrosion resistance)

2. AEB-L (Solid reputation and easy to sharpen)

3. HIC ( Unlikely to purchase do to high price and no warranty. Plus reasons I mentioned earlier)

4. SPY27CPM. (This would have been my first choice for purchase. But I do not like the straight spine design)
I may reconsider SPY 27CPM

I believe VG Xeus will be my likely choice if available next month on the third.

I don't think you can really go wrong with any of your choices here. Now your honing ability you mentioned I would certainly keep that concern in scope.

My HIC came to me with no edge on it at all, matter a fact it wasn't even on the edge you hone, it was actually quite rough and would not have cut anything. I was really quite surprised about the condition of the blank Mule I received lol.

I think most of these actually do have somewhat of an edge at least established and started. Neat Mule though really, I have never had any kind of a ceramic blade and wanting to try one to see what they are about is the very reason I bought mine.

I will look forward to see what you get and how you proceed with it.

If I were to personally go with the HIC. I would see if I could buy it and have Spyderco sharpen it for me. There is no way with my current equipment I coukd tackle HIC. Even if I had the skill.

You know if your limited on your honing equipment you might think about the AEB Mule, as I understand it to hone much easier.

It's one I don't have but must admit it has been one I have trolled hard on and still considering. You have mentioned the K294, you get one of those you might find they are a very hard metal and don't hone out that easy either.

I have a host if honing equipment here and I was quite surprised at how difficult of a time my diamond grit equipment from 200-4000 grit actually had put the razor sharp edge I insist on everything here.

Then in the end I wound up sending the 2 different K294 Mules I had to my mother and sister, they have a really hard time with a good knife in the gardens they both have and I just felt what a perfect knife for that with the right care keeping it clean and dry after each use at the end if each day.

This just suggestions for you to keep in scope as you zero in on your choice... it is nice to have choices.
