Bodacious lightweight salt
My Sage 5 lightweight salt (yellow handle, black liners, uncoated Magnacut blade) is the perfect knife for EDC.
Now I think the perfect beefed up companion for this knife would be a Bodacious lightweight salt with the exact same characteristics than the Sage 5.
What do you think about this idea?

Give me one with the black and yellow scales that the pm2 salt uses.patrick_g2 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 9:08 amMy Sage 5 lightweight salt (yellow handle, black liners, uncoated Magnacut blade) is the perfect knife for EDC.

It might eat away at the Caribbean’s sales but it would be an awesome upgrade
Just one more knife...

Oh, yeah!
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I'm okay with a Bodacious Salt, even if it's G10 and not a lightweight, if that would get the product to market faster.

Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
Yes! This sounds like a very useful setup.
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I am still confused as ever why people think they need a Salt model for EDC.
The Bodacious G-10 is $225. Ok, a LW version that is, say, $130, makes a bit of sense.
After the Chief LW adaptation I'm honestly skeptical that Spyderco would make an awesome Bodacious LW. I think they need to re-think the scales a bit. What works on small knives doesn't necessarily work on big knives. And for goodness sake make sure the clip actually fits the scales properly. I think if you're not going to do something unique for the scales don't bother. There's plenty of Salt knives.

Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
Immediate buy. Probably two. Three, if it is 4-way carry, like the Lil' Temp 3 LW.
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
If they make a salt I'd cave and try out the bodacious. Not convinced it'd beat out the Military, Manix XL etc. for me, but I really like the lack of a thumb ramp and edge to the scales.
In my line of work (chef) my folders are often exposed to sweat for 10-15 hour shifts 5 days a week. Plus I go for runs and to the gym daily. VG10, S30V and other corrosion resistant stainless steels (without DLC) get rust spots after 2-3 hours of IWB carry in sweaty clothing. So I guess I don't understand your confusion.
Same reason as always. Less maintenance with no downside. Salt models require less care than the top tier edge holding steels for me and with magnacut, magnamax etc. edge holding is great too.

100% agreed. they really need to get a handle on doing clips right for large lightweight knives. I've been bringing up this issue since 2019, I have no idea why they're still missing the mark. After the Chief LW adaptation I'm honestly skeptical that Spyderco would make an awesome Bodacious LW. Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I’ve been thinking about this. I think Spyderco tries too hard to keep the same aesthetics on scale across different models. Maybe it’s an unnecessary constraint. The original Native had a great handle and it was nothing like anything else. I’m not convinced the bi-directional sharp texture is necessary or useful.
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
Corrosion resistance is, and has been for a long time, the most overstated yet unnecessary, blade steel characteristic on this whole forum. The vast majority of knife users do not need Salt levels of corrosion resistance but the allure of being able to use your knife and never maintain it, is obviously extremely appealing to a lot of people. I've heard a thousand and one excuses for it too... I say it every time, there is nothing wrong with having preferences, if someone wants a Salt steel so be it, but at the same time it's important to be honest with ourselves.zhyla wrote: ↑Sat Sep 06, 2025 8:15 pmI am still confused as ever why people think they need a Salt model for EDC.

Having a consistent design language can benefits Spyderco in many ways. It creates strong brand recognition and as a result builds consumer trust. It shows professionalism and confidence too. They know what they're doing and don't need to throw a bunch of darts at the wall every year to see what sticks. In the spirit of keeping shiny footprints, the companies who do this will remain nameless but many brands try to emulate what Spyderco does for obvious reasons.zhyla wrote: ↑Sun Sep 07, 2025 1:44 amI’ve been thinking about this. As far as a Bodacious LW Salt goes, it is inevitable, isn't it? I don't see it as a question of "if" but rather "when?"
With an FRN Shaman in the pipeline, I'm sure there will be a Salt version to follow. A Bodacious LW would probably need to precede a Bodacious LW Salt.
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I don’t want to be that guy…
I have trouble with frn Spyders, sans the Delica (2/3) and pm3. They seem always to be off center, so bad sometimes they hit the top of the scales.
Lightweight seems nice in theory but this has been a big issue in my eyes.

That could be it.zhyla wrote: ↑Sun Sep 07, 2025 1:44 amI’ve been thinking about this. I think Spyderco tries too hard to keep the same aesthetics on scale across different models. The original native had a nice texture. grippy but not abrasive at all. same with the frn caly jr's.
I always felt the volcano grip from the pacific salt 1 / gen 3 endura was a good compromise between being really grippy but not too abrasive. even though the draw on a pacific 1 isnt as smooth as a g10 folder I never felt the need to sand them down like the bi-directional texture.
also not wild about the current texture for IWB carry, whether fixed or folding. That's one of the things I like about the street beat lightweight so much....no rough edges.
back to the bodacious....I'll be trying one out someday. It looks like a really good design, just a bit small for my preferences. one built like the military 2 salt would definitely get my attention, but I'd try a LW salt too.
Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I need a Salt because parts of the year moisture eats away sharpness quick enough h1 is an improvement over something much better with edge holding and still corrosion resistant like m390/20cv for fine edge holding.
It's important to remember where you live is not exactly the same as where everyone else lives. Learned that myself after moving around quite a bit for school and the military. ...and corrosion resistance is not just about pepper spots on the side of the blade. Moisture kills edges. I believe we have a big thread about that here somewhere.

Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
Seems like a lot of people want more Bodacious. I'm shocked we haven't seen a sprint or exclusive announced, at least the standard CF/S90v. I'd obviously love to see a Magnacut Bodacious, blacked out.
To be honest, Salt's didn't do really do it for me until Magnacut was a thing. Tool steels like M4 are my go to, but MC is just such a great all around steel that feels unlike most stainless. Having a knife with zero concern for corrosion is just bonus.

Love the Bodacious. Re-skinned my Spy27 in Rockscale titanium. Magnacut, Magnamax, S90V or S110V would all be instant buys for me.

Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
I will echo many of of the comments here. We need more Bodacious models - their absence seems peculiar, given how many sprints and exclusives we see in other similar Spydercos. How about 3V DLC murdered out model?
Yeah, the FRN and FRCP seems to get troublesome the bigger you go. And…it feels cheap, especially FRCP. There seems to be flex issues, and centering issues, which I don’t care as much about, but some people REALLY do and they have money to spend and I will even agree with them and say that many knife peeps will look at centering as a commentary on the quality.

Re: Bodacious lightweight salt
A Bodacious Salt would be incredible. The Bodacious ruined my rotation…it’s pretty much all I carry now. It’s just better than all the rest. I’d love some variety again and a salt would be great.
