Dyad Jr Spy27 Sprint

I'm pretty excited about this one and it looks like the street price will be about $109 which IMO is very reasonable considering it's practically 2 knives. This is also to my knowledge the first opportunity to use SE Spy27.

I don't know how likely it would be to see any CQI happen to this model, but I think it would be really cool if the pivots were redesigned to use some kind of hollow barrel screw so that either end could be used as a lanyard hole, then I'd put one of these on my keys.

Regardless I've always felt these are perfect to toss in a backpack for backup use. They're small and light enough to not be a nuisance but you get 4.84 inches of usable edge length in a folded package of just 3.23 inches. I know it's kind of cheating since you can't really use all of that edge length at the same time, but it does effectively double the edge length and that translates directly into twice the edge retention. This sort of knife is perfect for mundane everyday knife uses.

Agreed- very excited for the return of the Dyad Jr. Previous releases were before I was in the hobby and used ones seem hard to find.

I'll definitely be picking up at least one. The concept is just so darned handy if you don't like carrying multiple knives to get the PE/SE combo (I've tried that approach and was not fond of it).

Only thing I'm pondering is best way to carry- which seems to be a theme. I'm not a big "drop in the pocket" fan. Was reviewing old threads yesterday and lanyard tube/pocket clip were common thoughts for improvement.

Not sure on relative size or practicality but my initial attempt will be to see if it fits in the MKM magnetic leather pocket slip I have floating around.

Wonder if anyone has any helpful experience with carry options?

This is definitely the first SE Spy27 option.

I've carried mine in the 5th pocket of jeans before, as long as that pocket isn't made too deep and it's hard to fish out.

@elena86- part of Reveal 18 that dropped yesterday. Its a sprint but not available anywhere yet.

@Evil D - 5th pocket makes sense. Never found it comfortable/practical but may need to try again. Thanks!

I don't know if it is helpful, but I used to carry a Micarta Dyad Jr. clipped to the watch pocket of my jeans. That is, until I lost the third one and finally learned that was a bad idea. Luckily, I'm an old geezer who started carrying a pocket knife before Sal thought to put a pocket clip on one. Loose in the pocket is fine with me.

I don't love it for a knife I'd use more often but if I just wanted it as a backup I can live with it.

Years ago I even cut the stitching out of the bottom of some of those little pockets so I could carry a Military there.

Now THAT shows dedication to the hobby.

Thanks yab.

Regardless of carry approach I'm excited to give the Dyad Jr a spin.

Vast majority of my cutting is not at all hard use so the thin stock is not a concern and is a major plus.

Really like the idea of having SE and PE readily available based on the task at hand.

I do love smaller blades and I love to carry one SE and other PE knife along, Dyad will be like two knives in one and I might add another one to my sketching kit as it will be darn handy for sharpening pencils, cutting paper for smaller sketches and such. I am incredibly stoked!

This is one I’m planning on getting.
I would prefer it a little bigger, the price point is nice and seems to be a great companion.

It's not comfortable but I love the Dyads. I sold the big one I had because it was actually too impractical. But the JR and Mini are perfect as "pinched" knives as I call them.

You open it, hold it without much pressure anyways, sometimes even by the blade and once the small cutting task is done you just have to put it back where it was :open-grin.

I'm really surprised by the high MSRP of the Balance but this Dyad Jr will clearly come to replace it's grandfather. I think it's in ATS34 or 55, SPY27 will be much more enjoyable since I felt like I had to sharpen the old one way too often lol.

Not available even for pre-order anywhere yet as far as I can see. I’m watching closely to jump as soon as possible!

Right now it's equally an awesome knife and an awful one at the same time.

I don't know how many of these Spyderco is going to make, but I have the feeling they'll sell really fast.
