Bodacious Discussion
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Well, while we’re wishing and hoping, I’ll add a Bodacious in 3V. Not too crazy about Black G-10 or the 25 different shades of FDE, but honestly I’d take a 3V in any color!

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I would think so, I am a little suppressed we have not seen more steels for it. Got my first one, a SPY-27, and I absolutely love it. Even though it's the same 3.5" blade size of my Manix, it cuts like it's a 4" knife with all the extra edge length it has. Its sad but now i never carry my GB2 in favor of my Bodacious.Evil D wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 11:11 amWilliamMunny wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:07 amI read somewhere, they had a 15V Bodacious prototype at the Bladeshow. It's third hand information so take it with a grain of salt.
I've heard that from a couple people now but I'm trying to not build myself up for a letdown, it's entirely possible they made that display knife before the 15V well dried up. If it doesn't happen then that's a real bummer, hopefully a MagnaCut Salt isn't out of the question.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I'm tempted by the SE Bodacious. I also have been burned by "preorder and wait forever", so I will wait before ordering.Evil D wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 3:17 pmSure would appreciate a pulse check on the SE Bodacious. I just got my monthly "your order is still being processed" from KnifeCenter so I got curious and check my account and saw that this preorder is now over a year old as of 06/16/2024. I normally don't even bother with preorders especially for regular production models but it did get me a Native 5 Salt way faster than most so I figured it couldn't hurt. I'm a patient man but I didn't expect to be waiting over a year.
Different steels (from the standard S30V) don't really tempt me.
A Bodacious LW is an immediate buy. I'd rather get both the PE and SE in LW, if I had a choice.

Hadn't thought about it like this until you said it, but pretty much same here.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 11:49 am

Excluding sentimental attachments to some knives, I could probably sell all of them and be left with some flavor of a Bodacious, Military 2 and my Ayoob. I really hope the Bodacious is selling sell enough to justify more variants. All I can do is promise to do my part and buy whatever gets made as long as it's not some super weird handle/scale combo.

Yeah, OK, maybe i should buy the SPY27 version just to support Team Bodacious (and I really like the blue).Evil D wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 6:51 amExcluding sentimental attachments to some knives, I could probably sell all of them and be left with some flavor of a Bodacious, Military 2 and my Ayoob. The Bodacious has redirected and focused my knife buying. It's very close to Sal designing a knife just for me. i just went through my "collection" (Plano storage box), and my three are the Bodacious, the Yojumbo, and the UKPK. I carry the UKPK when I'm wearing a suit, since it is very light, and not scary-looking. Which leads me to ask:
Is it possible to design a slip-joint Bodacious, or slip-joint mini-Bodacious? Either would be a wonderful companion to the compression-lock version.
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Hi Hermit,
The Bodacious doesn't have a finger choil which is really a safety feature for Slipits.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Thanks, Sal! I certainly appreciate the role of the finger choil as a safety feature in the UKPK. You are using the finger choil to increase safety during use in slip joint designs, and my experience is that your design works very well.
So I guess I will grudgingly admit you are right in not making a Bodacious Slipit. I still want one, though.

The blue looks great on the Bodacious scales. I must say that I totally missed that (now?) the Bodacious is also available in SE...
Any experiences yet? Or inputs how the serrations on this model are done? (David @Evil D ...? )

Hope you´ll let us know how you like a Bodacious with teeth! (I have an idea already that you probably won´t exactly hate it...

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Unfortunately we all know it's a bit of a gamble with serration patterns, I really wish they could all be standardized somehow. I've really liked my last few SE models from Golden so I have high hopes. I'm expecting it to be a lot like my Chief Salt and if so then I'll be very happy with it.
I'm not sure why but it seems like blade stock thickness has an impact on the final angle of serrations. I don't know any other reason why the Chief and Military 2 would have such different serration angles since they're ground in the same factory, unless the knives I have came from very different spots in the wear life of the grinding wheel and that caused the Chief to be lower than 15 degrees and the Military 2 to be higher than 15 degrees. But, I suspect it's more than that because my Native 5 Salt is exactly the same as my Chief and it's the same blade stock thickness so there seems to be a pattern. With the Bodacious and Chief being the same blade stock thickness, and being .5mm thinner than a Military 2, I'm hoping the Bodacious comes ground like the Chief.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I get grouchy every time I see a picture of the Shaman with tip-down clip holes beside the Bodacious with none - a decision I hope goes the other way if a Bodacious LW ever gets made.
Re: Bodacious Discussion
First impressions are very good, mine seems to be ground about exactly at 15 degrees judging by the scratch pattern hitting evenly on the shoulder and apex. I would've been even happier if it were a bit lower than 15 but I can live with this. Centering, action and lockup are spot on too.

What's odd is these scales actually have some texture to them. It's subtle but they're not as smooth as my others, it's almost like a micro peel ply texture. Not sure if this is intentional or something of a "defect" on what should have been smooth scales. I would actually love to see the Bodacious get the heavy texture G10 that the Yojumbo has.
Probably can't tell from a picture but the SE is on the bottom, you can sort of see it in how much darker the scale looks.

I found the scales deceptively smooth, meaning, that given the look...I would have thought they would have had far more texture. The end up feeling far closer to the standard smooth G10 scales of the regular non-SE Bodacious than the standard G10 we find on various Golden models, like the Para, PM2, Manix 2, etc.
I’d like to see them change this. I don’t know the reason they went with smooth scales on this model, but it is one of the few models I have dropped due to the scales slipping right through my hands (my clumsiness I'm sure played a role, too). But these are supposed to be performance tools and it’s hard to trust the lack of texture when I'm up on a ladder or something to have enough purchase.
Now the 2 Shamans in that picture...THAT is where it is at. Of course, the 'Salt' texture is fantastic, and combined with the contouring of the Shaman scales, strike a really nice balance that I think will be a crowd pleaser. I enjoyed it.
The one that totally threw me for a loop was that Shaman lightweight. If you haven't held one, you own it to yourself. IMO, Spyderco sort of missed the boat not highlighting the texture - it is far different than anything I've ever felt. It is like 400 grit sandpaper, all over a contoured surface. It's purchase was quite awesome. I really enjoyed it, and wish they would immediately put that texture on the regular Shaman, but since it is molded into the handle, it is probably not something that can just be machined into G10...
