Is it a cost cutting measure or something or are Maniago still not that great at jimping? (as previously shown by the HH exclusive S90v Urban).



When the updated version with N690co is released can we get jimping on it please?

I decided to pick up a Magnacut UKPK instead, as they just came back in stock here in Canada and I want to give Magnacut another try

Yet the Metropolitan might be superior to the UKPK when it comes to thickness behind the edge and that is paramount for me. I don't own one yet but all my Urbans are around 0.018'' bte so I have an educated guess that the Met will follow his little brother. I couldn't care less for the finger choil jimping as long as the UKPK is 0.022''-0.023'' bte and the Met is(hopefully) under 0.020 ''.

The brittle part is one of the things that got me. I broke a chunk off the tip of my S110V Native recently cutting a zip tie (probably twisted too much), so I'm realizing I need something a bit tougher for my work knife.

I may still try the Metro at some point. I do remember my Urban being quite slicey, even if the grind was way off at the tip.

While the UKPK definitely hasn't got the highest spring tension ever seen in a slipjoint, I feel like the open, closed and half-stop positions feel very positive, snappy, clearly defined and thus very confidence inspiring. Even though the Urbans spring is stiffer, it feels less clear when it will disengage. Sounds counterintuitive but I believe it has to do with the split spring design particular only found in the UKPK.

I have a stack of Spydies so I have quite a bit of comparison between the models to experience and I love the UKPKs spring tension for a slip joint.. It's so easy to open and has a very positive action. I just keep it clean and oiled and never have an issue with it.



I bought my 5th UKPK this week. I love these things. Most are in storage but I like having my own personal stock. I get fed up of knives being discontinued, so now I buy them when they're available.

I'm also going to get a Spydie Met. It looks good - similar to the UKPK but a bit smaller. Smaller than a Tern as well, apparently.

I know one of the big questions was ‘how does the action of the Metropolitan feel?’. After handling an Urban that had a pretty rough and gritty action, that question became important to me as well.

I got to check one out for the first time today at the SFO and I am highly impressed. I also pulled out a UKPK and an Urban just so I wasn’t going entirely off memory.







The action mechanics feel closer to an Urban, but it had the smoothness of the UKPK. That was my biggest concern. Smooth, or gritty? Happy to report it is the former.

In contrast, the UKPK felt more precise, with better ‘clicks’ and acoustics, but that half stop on it feels too deep - it is a little jarring, and I noticed myself wanting to close it with both hands so I wouldn’t sending it flying home out of control and risk either cutting myself or dropping the knife. It’s my only complaint about the UKPK.

Based on handling all 3, I definitely like the Metro the best. I wish it had the ‘precision’ feel of the UKPK, but it has the smoothness, which is more important, and felt the most ‘user friendly’ out of the 3. One thing to note is that due to that user friendliness, it takes slightly less pressure to disengage the blade, FWIW. May be important to some. Felt fine to me.


I hope this helps someone out there! It’s a little gem of a knife! I will pick one up, but I think I am going to wait for it to come is a slightly less brittle steel.

Action is certainly comparable to the UKPK that I own and while it was plenty sharp out of the box it now wears a 800 grit/.05um stropped edge that has been an absolute terror on everything I've used it on including four wall cardboard by accident!!!

I'm getting excited about this knife. I don't expect it to beat my favourite UK legal UKPK LC200N as I think that's a pretty much perfect design taking it right to the edge (lol) of UK legal, but I'm still wanting to get into this new Met range over the coming months.

How thick is the handle compared to the UKPK? It looks quite a bit thicker in the photo.

I was expecting something bellow 0.020. My K390 Urban is 0.017 ! Maybe your caliper is crap-tastic
