foil paper wrapping on old C02

#1

Post by bandaidman »

I found a nos mariner (g-2 marked) and it came wrapped in a foil paper. I think I remember some Japan models coming that way in the 90s but am not certain. does anybody have more information?

This is an interesting tidbit I haven’t heard before. Can you snap a photo?

I recall way back, when Spyderco used those small blue fold-up type boxes, some Native 2s (the SS version) also came wrapped in foil.

Always reminded me of the foil wrapper that Wrigley's used for their chewing gum.

Nah, I'm just a packrat that accumulates stuff. It's only been Spyderco stuff for twenty years or so.

had never seen it before

I was surprised that it came in it and not a plastic sleeve like most of my other small blue box spydercos

curious if from factory and not a later addition. was it common or just a random thing?

Hi Bandaidman,

That's the way they came to us in the early '80's.

It's paper backed foil like what chewing gum and cigarettes are wrapped in.

That was back when they expected you to toss the package and use the knife. It was probably faster to bag the small ones and wrap the larger ones.
