This is an easy one for me, without hesitation too. The Military 2 Salt has the new killer scales and black MagnaCut steel.

There is not anything better out there right now imo. Here is a link to check these out...

Price range? What environment? Most common type of material you'll be cutting? Lock type preferences? Left or right handed?

My personal choice would be a Military 2 Salt, but there are cheaper options if your budget is lower.

For a fixed blade option, consider the Street Bowie. I've used a friend's, and the way that knife draws from the sheath is really ergonomic.

Also, since no one has posted a wharncliffe yet, there's also the blacked-out Yojimbo/Yojumbos. These are purpose-built folding knives oriented toward self-defense applications, but if you do a lot of utility cuts in your day-to-day life, then wharncliffe is king.
