Flytanium is back in stock, at least I was able to order a bronze set for a Hap40 blade I’ve been wanting to set up.chronovore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:22 amThanks! It was delightful.weeping minora wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:58 pmExcellent cigar!
...and the knife ain't too shabby either.
I recently received this same variant of Dragonfly as my first for this model. Wasn't really feeling it upon first impression, but after a few days of carry and use, it has actually grown on me quite a bit.
Yeah, the Dragonfly is just sort of magic. It's so small and light and easy to carry. Heck, I have a bunch of them and some permanently live in jacket pockets.
I usually have bad ergonomic luck between the thumb ramp and that type of choil that forces finger placement. Somehow, everything lines up perfectly between this tiny knife and my large hand. It's also one of the better back locks for me. I do get a little blade play (more when kept a little loose for flicking) but that's where that half choil situation helps. Since I'm basically always holding the base of the blade with the scales, it anchors and everything works out.
That's not to say that there isn't room for improvement. I wish that they'd run it on washers instead of just blade versus scale. My favorite upgrade is the Flytanium kit. There is a very slight increase in weight with titanium but being so much more solid is nice. The big thing is that they set it up to run on washers. Unfortunately, they are out of stock and don't know when they will be making more. I wouldn't do it for all of them but I really want to do a few more.
Also, just to mention, my last LBBC s30v Dragonfly, not that long ago, is running on washers from the factory. Just an fyi.

chronovore, I have to agree, and for whatever the reason, I've been able to dial in the action and avoid blade-play; something quite rare amongst the Seki Spydies IME. I have to admit, I don't really tune my action for flickability, but as you stated, the anchoring of the grip seems to mitigate any noticeable blade-play in use. Thanks for the info on the Flytanium upgrade.jwbnyc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:21 pmFlytanium is back in stock, at least I was able to order a bronze set for a Hap40 blade I’ve been wanting to set up.chronovore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:22 amThanks! jwb, interesting information. I'll have to get a light in there and see if there are any washers in my example (I believe production code was DY, or April of this year, 2025). Based on feel, I would say there aren't any washers, but I wouldn't mind being wrong!

With all the trash talking I’ve done around back locks, maybe you could say they are my guilty pleasure?

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Along with the usual 5th pocket knife (currently a Chaparral SE), today I'm carrying a Sage 5 Salt with Ripp's Garage Micarta scales. For general use, I prefer the feel of Micarta scales, though I would not want them on a fishing knife--my Salt 2 Wharncliffe SE will always wear it's bright yellow FRN scales for that purpose. When I ordered these micarta scales, the type I originally wanted wasn't available, so I got the swirl pattern. I was pleasantly surprised how well scales work.

More 15V and more CBN just arrived from the post man!
I've had the G10 model, just the LW is new. It is my first screw construction Manix 2 LW, pretty excited on all counts!

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I'm so tempted to get the 15V Manix LW, but I already have the Para 3 variant, and I don't need any more tool steels given the wet tropical climate here. FOMO is real
Caribbean for today.

Caribbean for today.

Been carrying the Salt 1 consistently for the past couple weeks. The 'ole Delica bones make me smile every time.

I hear you!
Just keep up your salt intake! I love my salts and tool steels too. If I lived in tropical humidity I would be shy about buying tool steels.

Bodacious SPY27 & PM2 REX76
Both with Rockscale scales and backspacers, pretty neat. Especially the Bodacious feels much more grippy and balanced. The PM2 looks surprisingly similar to the G10 brick scales, but feels nicers.
