Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
Been waiting and hoping for a Sprint run of CPM 3V. Would love to see it on the Native 5 and Chief. Figured I would ask instead of waiting with Crucible no longer around. Hoping some stock of this metal is still available.
Edit - the Canis with 3V would be awesome.

Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
I'd be all in for a Manix run in 3V, I think it would suit the Manix well.
Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
Wow that's not many V's. I think the lowest I can go is 15 V's.
Actually no I do have one with only 4 V's.
Ok seriously wasn't the TUFF the only knife done in 3V? I can't remember another one.

I'd be interested in a 3V Province or Schempp Rock, but not a folder, as I don't see myself chopping branches or batoning with a folder any time soon.

I've been hoping for the same. Manix XL would be the dream but I'd be interested in any model just to try 3v with a Spyderco heat treat.
Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
People tend to think of 3V in terms of how much abuse it can take, but the toughness of 3V also allows for it to be ground very thin behind the edge. I have a Bailey Bradshaw Whitewing folder that would make the much anticipated high performance Delica jealous.
Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
What utility are you hoping to get from 3V in a folder? (assuming you're talking folders)
3V I believe doesn't have the hardness for thin edges that people like to push out of the high toughness steels e.g. M4, Rex45, 4V...
Tell me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that a 3V blade excels only at tasks that a folding knife is unsuitable for?

Seems pretty suitable to me.

I love 3V it is a great steel.
I will second the recommendation of a Canis in a Sprint Run of 3V, wow that would be cool.

Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
3V has similar edge retention to VG10, but is a lot tougher. I think it might make for some pretty great serrated knives.

Buy some delta 3V from Carothers and use that in a Chief.

Hey man, that steel is for my K20.1. Don't give Nate any ideas that he can just take it easy and become a steel salesman.

Bodacious 3V might be a decent match?

Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
Yep, it is. And the previously mentioned Canis + Shaman, and Bodacious would all be great choices. Knives that are on the 'harder use' end of the spectrum, since the Shaman and Bodie fit that parameter well. But because the Shaman has gotten favorable treatment with specialty steel runs, I'd love to see a Bodacious in 3V.
And heck, let's give Larrin some time exploring 3V and 3Vmod and maybe we'll get a better optimized version.
I know we all have our favorites but you could probably standardize on just a few steels -
3V - Super high toughness, decent corrosion resistance
SPY27 - all around steel, good for introducing others to Spyderco
Cruwear - all around steel, but focus on edge/toughness vs corrosion resistance
Salt versions:
LC200/H1/H2 - Insane corrosion resistance, high toughness
Magnacut - Salt steel, good all around properties
Magnamax - (maybe?) Salt steel, high edge retention
My hot take on the steel stuff is that with the way things are going, many steels like VG10, BD1N, S30V, and many others simply become a distraction.

Re: Any chance at a CPM 3V sprint run?
Are y'all chipping or breaking S30V folders that much to where 3V-level toughness is necessary?
I do have some 3V but it's all in 5"+ fixed blades. For the price of PM steel these days and how I use folders, personally I don't think I would pay for 3V in a folding knife.

Been a mystery to me why Spyderco has offered no 3V folder other than the Tuff.
I’d be pretty much open to 3V in any Spydie capable of hard use.

Beautiful. Thank you. I remember it from years ago and wanting to get one but never did.
