Stumbled across this JD at a local gun shop, excellent condition, $100 bill out the door, absolutely hated it! I traded it the very next week at a gun show to a vendor I’ve dealt with many times for a Gayle Bradley 1, couldn’t wait to get rid of it! But, it is a good looking knife!

Can you describe the quirks? I love the OG seki backlocks, but they have their issues, no doubt.

I've been curious about this model for a long time.

how smooth/stiff is the action? Older pinned sekis could be kinda stiff and can't be adjusted.

Anything else odd about balance, weight, hole size, opening arc size, slick scale finish, etc?

Tip down only is an annoyance on the v1's. Lack of SE is an annoyance on the v2's. Really I'd like a v2 handle with v1 SE blade.

Anything else that makes it stand apart from other seki backlocks?

I gave what I thought was a fair offer for a Sage 4 but it went to someone else for a bit more. I also gave an offer for a 25th anniversary Delica with original rosewood box but it wasn't accepted.

Sorry so long to get back to you.... So quirks? Maybe not so much quirks, it was probably more me than what I'd call quirks! I'm terrible for not giving a knife a chance after it's first impression or two. I saw it in a local to me gun store, had never seen or even held one before and quickly traded that $100 bill for it! That beautiful polished Micarta won me over in the store!

First off, I don't have huge hands, more what I'd call medium meaty, thick hands, this knife was just too thin for me, and again that's on me, that's the way this knife was designed. It's one more sticker, it had a serious needle thin tip!

But the killer for me was the Ricasso, just don't understand the design behind this one? Ricasso? Choil? Both in one? I feel a good opportunity was missed using a proper choil, or bringing the edge down more closer the the handle, there's already a good finger guard made into the handle.

I will say, it's one good looking knife, and the Micarta on mine just stood out, it was beautiful. It just overall didn't feel right....to me, that's all I've got.

And the fact that I only had $100 in that practically brand new GB1 I traded for didn't hurt either! ;)

It's mixed. I've missed Spyderco Hundred Pacer. Found one in a British online retailer and by the time I check out it was gone. The hunt continues. On the other hand, in the British forum I literally stole Spyderco Manix XL C95GP. Brand new in box. For a £100 delivered to my door. That's the deal of the year for me.

That’s a tasty deal on the Manix!

I don't think i have missed a grail.. There are knives i passed on at the time i regret now, like the C42 Viele, C87 Scorpius (had the opportunity to buy both lanyard hole variants but i couldn't afford them right then)
More recently (relatively speaking) i wish i had bought the Pattada. Again, no grails, just "would be nice to own"

I missed a PM2 sprint in CPM-154 and S90V. They were very limited and sold out quickly. This was when S90V was still super scarce and premium.

Give Cutting Edge a call about their C42 if you still want one.

Cru Wear Shaman was the one I couldn't get back in the day. Almost spent $500 on one a few times, then PM Z-Wear Shamans got announced. Ended up with 4 and a very angry wife.

Fast forward and Marcata Spydercos are readily available.

Side note I still regret not snatching a Serrated ATR the few times I have seen them come up for big money.

I missed the opportunity years ago on the Tatanka, I stopped looking for it these days. I was gifted back in 2018, the Ed Schempp Rock Salt H1 Sprint run with the Orange Handle for Father's Day. This is my Grail Knife.

I think I've done a good job getting all the models I've been interested in. Only one I kind of regret not getting is the Nirvana. Fortunately, a few years later I ended up getting a great deal on the Paysan that I really like.

Not feeling it.

Letting much of my collection go. Have made it past wanting a wide variety of many and have narrowed down and I keep narrowing down.

FWIW - Most of what you talk about was felt years ago (particularly sprints I wanted that disappeared in minutes), but today if I owned it - it would be one that I would be letting go.

I’m very comfortable with where I am with knife collecting and welcome the change.

Still have a great smaller knife collection with limited interest in adding to it.
