A small CruCarta knife?

#1

Post by Roefisher »

Today, I used my PM2 CruCarta for dinner and it got me thinking about a smaller version.

I love the soft, grippy, touch Micarta and the CRUWEAR steel has proven excellent. Another winning feature of me is the full steel liners which both look the part and give me great confidence in the knife's strength.

I was thinking about something around the UKPK, smaller again to the Lil' Temperance and, another step down even further, to the Dragonfly. But if I had to choose one looking at all three together on my chest of drawers, I'd go with the the CruCarta Dragonfly. A full steel linered Micarta scaled CRUWEAR Dragonfly would be a wonderful little knife. To tell you the truth, I'd take the pocket-clip off immediately and get it into use as my hidden deep pocket carry pencil sharpener/edc knife.

Agree, the Lil Native is one of their best small knives.

Yes, the Lil Native is a great 5th pocket knife. Such a good design. I much prefer it over the Dragonfly, even though it's heavier and much thicker.

I agree whole-heartedly, but hope they'll omit the liners. I also hope the Native 5 will be linerless.

I made a G10-K390 Dragonfly, but I find I don't carry it nearly as often as my LW model. The action is a bit stiff, and the extra weight doesn't help me do anything.

I almost brought it with me as my vacation knife this weekend, but ended up bringing the Bugout again instead - it's just really hard to beat.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I've been carrying the Dragonfly, as my deep-pocket edc knife, everyday since I started this thread and it has been really impressive. Earlier today, I replaced it with my UKPK for a change.

There's surely a spot in the Spyderco line-up for a small CruCarta knife... Whether it's a UKPK, Lil' Temperance, Dragonfly or something similar?

CruCarta Chaparral. I removed the clip from my maple and raffir ones and they are an absolute joy to EDC.

Gifted my Lil’ Native to our youth pastor recently, so a CruCarta Lil’ Native would be a must buy for me. Heck just about anything in Cru-wear is a must buy for me.

EDIT: I’m probably in the minority here, but I’d like to see a CruCarta Lil’ Native with a back lock and a spoon clip, and I wouldn’t turn my nose up and some serrated Cru-wear!

I'd be in if the blade dimensions were that of the (yet to be released) Lil Native Lightweight: .09" stock thickness, AKA that of the Delica.

Usually the smaller the blade the more I like to up the edge retention. A CruCarta Lil Native though would intrigue me since it's such a little tank of a knife.

I'd also love love love to see the Cat get blessed with any sort of variants to increase its presence in the line up. It's basically a mini Sage 1 and such a hidden gem in the line up. I'm always worried every year it'll pop up on the next "Disco'd for 20XX" thread. Being a true little big knife like the Lil Native, having a tough steel like CruWear would actually suit it well.

So many good suggestions on this thread!

I may be slightly biased being a Brit abroad and wanting fancy pants knives to take on holiday to the UK with me when I visit, but I would LOVE a Cru-carta UKPK! I’m currently carrying the Chap Slipjoint for this summer’s trip around Switzerland, Scotland and England. 8 days in to a 35 day trip and already I’m wanting that bit more blade length for cutting salami, fruit and fresh bread.

I dig the lockback lil Native and the compression lock one too. Both are even better with teeth. i would also like some serrated CruWear! 😁

There was earlier mention of the Chap. I wonder if the possible future Chap XL/Ponderosa would be small enough. A crucarta initial release (or pre-release sprint) would be nice.
