Sharpening angle for Dragonfly using Lansky sharpener

#1

Post by lyle »

My Lansky sharpeners (C-sharp and D-sharp) come with preset angles of 30, 25, 20, and 17 degrees.
What angle should I use on my Dragonfly for every day use?
Thanks....

Factory angle is probably close to 20 dps. If it was me, I'd use the 17 dps preset with a maximum grit of 400

You need to do the Sharpie trick and find out. Also remember that where you clamp the blade will also effect where the stones hit the bevel, so if it seems like you're between angles, you can move the blade inward on the clamp to raise the angle or outward to lower the angle. Again, use a marker to color the bevel to see where the stones are hitting.

I go 25 but clamp by the hole and have the clamp touch the scale so I’m in the flat part of the blade not the spine. Sharpie trick and 25 was close.

Spy27 and is a great balance of slice and durability.

I just tried out my D-Sharp for the first time after owning it for 5+ years. I was afraid to try it but it actually did a pretty good job on my Ambitious.

I used the 25 degree angle to put a micro bevel on it and it’s plenty sharp. My only complaint is that with the cutting edge going all the way to the handle on the Ambitious, I couldn’t get all the way to the heel of the edge.
