Videos with it are coming in from Blade Show. Looks very nice. They said they won’t use M398 forever, just in the beginning production.
I saw that video, and hoped that either Eric or David would have commented on the action of the knife, but they talked about the steel for a hot minute and moved on without further commentary on the knife itself. Time will tell!

I also wish Eric talked more about the knife itself. Mostly interested if they implemented an improved pivot since we know there were problems with the Urban.

I don’t understand why they’d make it in M398 and then immediately talk about making it in the old Maniago favourite: N690 before the model is even released. I have no experience with the steel but surely M398 wasn’t so bad that we have to take a backwards step?

When is this expected to be released? And will it take a little longer for it to travel across the pond to the UK?

It's chock full of large chromium based carbides, so it can be that bad. Larrin has an article on it. It's less tough than Zdp189 at a lower hardness.

Hi Spyderbro,

Welcome to our forum.

They are currently in route. I should get my first production sample in a week or so. The project has been in-the-works for more that 10 years.

I really enjoy the Urban, so I'm looking forward to the Metropolitan as well.

I seem to remember this uses the SPY-DK handle. Is that correct?

I hadn’t seen this article before. Thanks for sharing. Got it in my mind M398 would be an all round upgrade to N690.

I thought we were way passed producing large carbides in powder steels - less than ideal microstructures and toughness as a result. “Less toughness than S110V” isn’t what I’m looking for.

Now the talks of retrograding back to N690 before the model is even launched are starting to make sense. I probably hold out for N690, providing the asking prices reflect it.

Hi Doc,

That is correct. I designed the "Metro" at the same time as the DK. I didn't know know long the DK would last, especially since Denmark kept changing it's laws. I wanted to have a back up to help with the cost of the FRN molds. The "glitch" developed when I learned that the Urban was being made at 2.6 inch blade length when it was supposed to be 2.5 inch. we had to exhaust the Urban inventory and remake the mode at 2.5 inches before we could offer the "Metro" a 2.75 inches.

Hi Sal,
Would it be fair to assume that the Metro doesn't have the split fork style backspring that the UKPK has?

I'm good with the DK handle. I actually like that knife and carry one occasionally. It would be a great small game knife. The handle is comfortable for such a small knife.

When they decided to shorten the Urban’s blade I was quite let down but now I am happy again. This one is going to be a fierce competitor against my usual urban go to pocket folders. I hope Doc Dan is as excited as I am. Bring it on !
