Which one for the next - birthday present
Hello fellow forum members,
My birthday is getting close, and during the last year I found myself carrying Delica M390 and UKPK S110V almost all the time.
Then 2 months ago I impulse bought Sanremu titanium slipjoint, and haven't stop carrying it since.
Found that slim profile dissapears in my back pocket and titanium is sturdy.
Decided to go back to my love Spyderco after birthday (have some 20ish now), but want sturdy everything.
My first idea was C11S, as the handle is SS and the blade is stronger than FFG +I don't have any serrated blade in collection.
Then I remembered I live by the coast and had VG10 surface rust in my closet, and Salt 2 has that cool oversized hole (flicked Salt 1 for a year when I got it years ago). Then I remembered I can barely sharpen plain edge knives and maybe a C11P would be a good long term solution. And then I saw SPY27 which is a steel I still don't have, but I really dislike FRN pattern on Delica (UKPK pattern FTW)
And been jumping around for a month now.
Please get me out of this predicament :)

I have both a stainless handle Delica and one in FRN. I prefer the FRN Delica as the stainless handle feels too slick for me.
Why not a UKPK in Magnacut or LC200N, if you prefer the UKPK's texture over the FRN Delica?

I voted the Salt 2 but personally would prefer it in a Wharnie for more variation . MG2

I’d invest in some easy to apply blade wax and oil.
Living at the coast I’m able to use any steel with a bit of care.
Treat yourself to a Para 3 in 15V and a new world will open for you.
Else, a Native 5 Magnacut can be a great addition (serrated or not). A true user with great ergonomics, no need to maintain and it’ll surprise and serve incredibly.
Just to suggest diversity, since your current Delica and UKPN are hard to beat.

Not sure about wax, haven't heard of this.Stirmos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:01 amI’d invest in some easy to apply blade wax and oil.

As for oil, I use it on every steel besides H1 and LC200N.
I do have Native in LC, Magnacut and S30V + it's "boxy". Delica is a world apart in the pocket.
If Sal did a Delica in Magnacut, this would be an instant buy. Plus if he did it in G10 or titanium instead of "salting" every model with FRN and black hardware, I would get 2.

How about a Para 3 Salt with Magnacut/G10?pantagana23 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:34 amNot sure about wax, haven't heard of this.Stirmos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:01 amI’d invest in some easy to apply blade wax and oil.

The satin- yellow/black haven't been released yet. I'll definitely be getting one. But you can get the DLC - black version now
S30V; S35VN; VG-10; BD1N; H1; SuperBlue/SUS410; 8Cr13MoV; Micro-Melt PD#1; REX-45; K390; Magnacut; HAP40/SUS410; 20CV; 15V; M4; SPY27; LC200N; S90V

I voted SPY27 but switched it to the Salt 2. You don't have a Salt model yet.
Have you considered the Roadie XL? It's a fine knife that's head and shoulders easier to open than any other slipjoint. The FRN scales are smooth; much closer to the UKPK in texture. It might just bump the Sanremu right out of your pocket!

Voted Salt 2 but I’d actually grab a serrated Pacific Salt.

Voted for the Salt 2 SE. Lc200n in SE is one of those perfect combinations. It's a sweetheart of a steel to sharpen. If your sharpening skills are lacking lc200n will be very rewarding and make you feel like a rockstar.
Since you like the UKPK if you can track down a lc200n SE version I think you'd be smitten, but the Salt 2 is also a great knife. Sometimes it's nice having a locking blade. I'd also swap out the Spy27 delica for the g10 UKPK Spy27. Although I carry a Delica everyday at work deep down I think the UKPK is a perfect knife.

Would love this one, but as a lefty, I do only have a Paramilitary 2 LH in S45VN and keep hoping Sal does the G10 version of Para 3 in LH also.8th_Note wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 3:31 pmHow about a Para 3 Salt with Magnacut/G10?pantagana23 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:34 amNot sure about wax, haven't heard of this.Stirmos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:01 amI’d invest in some easy to apply blade wax and oil.

Roadie will get its way to the pocket eventually, just not this birthday :)riclaw wrote: ↑Sat Jun 28, 2025 6:37 pmI voted SPY27 but switched it to the Salt 2. You don't have a Salt model yet.

Thank you for suggestion, I completely forgot about this one

Re: Which one for the next - birthday present
Thank you all for voting and suggesting - winner is obvious - Salt 2 serrated.
So I'll get that one and Delica SS serrated also - I'll tell my SO to get me "the interesting green one" as she said, and the other goes under the counter.

Re: Which one for the next - birthday present
Huge hole in the serrated 3" knife market, I don't think you have a proper selection to choose from. Maybe a serrated native or chaparral if you want something different from a delica pattern. With the Native 5 you could possibly get some titanium scales.
I understand the birthday knife being something you want to carry, I went down to a Gooney Byrd this year. Love the blade but the rest is super poor quality for the price. I feel like you are trading wants for what's available. May you find happiness in the final product!

Re: Which one for the next - birthday present
I could not resist.
Slim (20-30% less width than FRN), sturdy, thick blade spine and serrated.
Reminds me of my first ever Spyderco - Police SS.
Wife will get the Salt
One question for anyone that would know - what is the material used for SS scales of this model, they stick to magnet, and all the stainless materials I have used (inox 304, 316 etc.) are non - magnetic.
Not sure if this info is available.
