Tip of Salt LC200N shallow

#1

Post by RugerNurse »

I noticed the other day the tip of my LC200N Salt 2 seems like it shallow in the scales. Maybe it’s always been like that but I did use it as a practice sharpening knife so maybe I did something.

Here's mine, tip seems fine in the scales. Pretty sure I've only ever sharpened this particular knife fairly sloppily on the CBN and grey rods, no benchstone yet. We all gotta screw up at least one tip on the road to sharpening greatness. I was definitely unhappy with a Para 3 LW of mine, but it functions fine and served as a learning tool. Sorry about your beloved Salt 2, I know that's your "main", or was. If it gets too shallow for ya, you can always put a pointy tip on it by grinding from the spine! A-la the famous Janich "Grey Man" Delicas, you could make your own "Green Man" Salt!

You can hone off a little at a time of the blade tang that is the stand-off for the blade stop, when closed... that in turn will allow the blade to drop down into the grip more as it wears.

Look at the blade stop with the knife closed and see where it rests on the stop pin. Then just hone a little off that stand-off on the blade, till you recover the tip in the grip like you want it. .020" usually makes the average blade drop quite a bit, so it doesn't take much.
