If I have a common complaint about these two side openers it's the tip up carry. I don't understand why they did that unless it's just because there was no other way to get the mechanism positioned right and have a place for the clip mounting on top of that. I don't expect it to happen, but to me any knife tip up in a pocket just doesn't make sense. Especially an auto tip up in a pocket, I can imagine things could go pretty wrong.
I took the safety off the one I worked on in this thread, and that knife got 6 years of dedicated carry in a very physical job. I only had it deploy in my pocket one time, and that was because I was carrying a wooden beard comb in the same pocket and it was hard enough to press against the lock and fire it. After that I stopped carrying anything in that pocket with it and it never happened again. When it happened I didn't get cut but it was pretty awkward trying to get it out of my pocket without cutting my pants to pieces.
That's pretty scary. Glad you didn't get cut!
Probably there ought be a thread with torn pockets and pants pics for the guys who prefer tip-up carry

Yes, Virginia, that's a Purple Haze in my suit pocket :)
Can anybody here give me some links to sources for the spring kit? Every so often we have guys travelling from the American offices to Europe, I'll ask one of them to bring a couple with them.

I don't remember if they're even available anywhere other than from Spyderco? That's who I got mine from anyway.

Thanks, do you have to live in a state where the knife itself is legal or can the spring kit be shipped anywhere?

I don't remember being asked about the state I live in, since this isn't technically a restricted item I think it'll be fine. If you wanna be even safer you could take it out of the original packaging before shipping internationally, then it's literally just a weird looking spring that could go to anything.

Checking the Spyderco site just now, they say it is a restricted item and that you have to sign up for some kind of program. This looks pretty annoying.
Yeah, after flying a bunch in the last years I have gotten in the habit of taking anything I bring from one place to another out of the packaging just to avoid paying tax twice.

Huh that must be new, I'm not in that program and I've bought 2 of these kits. It's kinda silly to have this restriction on the parts kit itself. Maybe you can call them and talk to someone about it. I got all 3 of my Autonomy knives from dealers but I can't find a dealer that's selling the parts kit.

Who knows, I guess Spyderco is just doing the required CYA. I have an idea on what shop I could try to get help from. I'll email those guys and see what they say. If it works out I'll post back in case any other EUvictim wants to buy some. Thanks for the help :)
