I said I bought my last knife but I was wrong

Post by Landshark99 »

When the Sage 6 S90V was announced, I said it would be the last knife I would buy for quite some time. Well I got one last week, love it. Was ready to quit buying and start selling some other brands from my collection of folders, inventory reduction time. Then a return of an old interest came up, I decided to start doing some surf fishing and realized I needed a knife to deal with that saltwater environment. I do have fillet knives but wanted a folder to keep on me. Even though I know I have a few Spydercos that could work at that, I did not want to bring any of my modified Para 2, 3 or Sage Salt magancuts. So today I bought my first H2 knife, a Pacific Salt 2 plain edge with yellow scales. It should be perfect, simple to clean and less costly than the others, if lost.
Funny the beginning of 2024, I owned maybe 4 or 5 Spydercos in a couple of steels now I have 24 in 15 steels, great company making amazing knives. Now I am done.

"the last knife" does not exist, so long as we're above the dirt.

If you're hanging out here, you haven't bought your last knife. I've been around a while...

It exist…. It’s just that few of us have the willpower to make it happen.

Yes I am a knife addict…. There are worse kinds of addictions.
Whatever turns you on, cupcake.

I wish you good luck good discipline and good fishing!

Did you not want to bring the Sage 5 Salt because it was too nice or you were worried it'd rust?

My Sage has some AWT scales and I like it to much to risk dropping it in the surf

I think I am good this time for at least the rest of the year and more, I own some example of most everything i like or wanted. I plan on unloading at least 6 to 10 of my collection. I am now up to 133 folders and want to get down to at least 120 or less.
Years ago I started collecting and using Japanese custom kitchen knives, got to another excessive number and have not bought another in the last four years.

Back when I had like 15-20 folders it could happen that I was going out for an activity, looked in my sock drawer to pick a suitable knife and didn't really find a good match..

The fact that this can still happen at 132 folders scares me :fearful-face

Anyhooo, enjoy the fishing!

The OP may find that Pacific Salt will find its way into the pocket and more use than intended. Light weight and simple to maintain, easy edge touch ups. A good cutting tool.

The last knife I bought (Native Chief) was 4 years ago. There are other knives I still say I'd like to get, but I never do. The longer you go without any new knife purchases, the easier it becomes to not buy any. At this point, it would take something REALLY special to break my inertia of non-buying.

Not buying knives has not dampened my enjoyment for knives. If anything, it has increased, because I've been spending more time with the knives that resonate with me, instead of always looking for the next shiny thing. Not saying it's wrong to always want more; I'm just saying where I happen to be at right now.

Pretty much me too! I recently bought one of those (relatively inexpensive) flipper razor blade knive just because it interested me. Otherwise, I haven't bought much in the past. I think the SpyMyto was the last new model I bought. Not sure why I decided I needed to buy two. Neither gets carried much haha. I'll get a Sage 6 at some point just to have one. I was going to get the S90V version until I saw the price. So I'll get a different variation when funds permit.

Otherwise there a lot of cool models in the reveals but I just can't keep buying knives just to put in a drawer. In the meantime I already have a lot of cool models that I enjoy using
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

i always said a blacked out manix salt would be the knife i ever bought. it's not out yet, but even knowing it's coming, there were others i've bought and love. tastes change and new models and materials are introduced. never a last one while you're still drawing oxygen.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I limit myself to two new knives per year (unless it's something under $50). No impulse buys. This year, so far I bought the serrated Chap. IDK yet what will be the other one. This way I keep the hobby alive, have enough time to appreciate each new knife and don't feel like a hoarder, even though I definitely have more than I need.

I'm pretty much there, but I do still need a Chaparral SE. It's been so highly praised, and I can't carry anything much bigger at work.
