KAPARA S90V DETENT ISSUE

#1

Post by vapedudde1975 »

I ordered my Kapara 5-22 just got it out the mailbox 5-27. The knife is beautiful the micarta is the best I have seen. The grind is almost perfect but then we get to the detent. The detent is so light almost feels like it doesn't have one. The blade is guillotine it just doesn't bonce back in like my para 2 cru-carta does. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

Detent on my feels like a regular compression lock. PM2 x , Yojimbo, & Sage to compare.

@vapedudde1975 Detent on mine feels great, and so does the detent on my backup S90V and original S30V Kaparas. The compression locks from Taichung feel a little different to me compared to the Golden versions, perhaps a little more refined/smooth, but the detents feel essentially the same as PM2/Para3/etc. that I've used. You could contact SFO to see what they say...

It sounds to me that it's perfectly setup. Least for me it would be. Just as long as you do get a solid lock at open position...

I don't really like any drag on my blades, so when I clutch mine, I want the blade closing lol. Now the bounce you mentioned, no not so much lol.

That dang bounce is the issue and to get that feathered out ever so softly is the trick in a manufacturing process.

If these were hand built custom one at a time and by one guy building the entire knife, then I would expect them to be perfect. I would also expect them to be a 750 dollar price point lol...

They buy everything in bulk and usually the parts are over powering a little putting a little more drag on the blades than is perfect, yours to me sounds like the perfect one, that only happens every 50 give or take knives lol.

My s90v Kapara has a perfect detent. Holds the blade in against any amount of inertial shaking and provides just a hint of resistance which transitions to a slight amount of friction.
I have to say this is one of the nicest fit and finish spydercos I've ever received!

Mine is just about perfect for what I like. Very light but not light enough to be deployed by inertial “twisting” of the wrist. Super smooth opening and closing with no lock stick. I noticed there is a light, sort of dampened “bump” when dropping closed. It must not be hitting the stop pin like my other CL models. I like it. Very good execution on this one.
