Just got a gently used Civilian yesterday. The G10 shows a little wear but the edge is factory fresh.

This knife is everything I expected it to be. I've seen them in person a bunch of times but for whatever reason never got to actually handle one. I've always suspected that I would really like the handle shape and I was so right, this design is brilliant.

But much like other self defense designs, I can't help but immediately see that everything that makes it a great design to use for self defense also makes it great to use for utility. I can't help but want one of these that has a far thicker grind in the tip so it can handle utility work without fear of breaking the tip off. And yes I know all about the Matriarch, but this handle is WAY better than an Endura handle.

I'm not sure I can resist the urge to just go ahead and use it and see what happens. I got it for a reasonable price and it's already used, and it's not one of the rare variants so damaging it won't weigh on my conscience lol. I'm already imagining how I could reprofile the tip and grind it back to the first large scallop and that would thicken it up a lot and it wouldn't lose too much of the hook. This knife is screaming out how good it could be for yard work, clearing weeds and vines and gardening, it's a pull cutting machine. The one drawback is that I really don't love the pocket clip and it has a weird hole pattern so there's probably no aftermarket options for it.

I've been talking with a British forum about a potential 10th anniversary forum knife. The knife in discussion is a Lil' Native Slipit designed by Eric. So I've been carrying the model to "be one with the design". If they decide to run with it, we'll make some mods so it's exclusive to their forum. Actually it a very nice design and Eric did a great job in creating it.

Ooh, very interesting! Since I moved overseas for work I’ve not been on any of the UK knife forums, but I would definitely join one to be able to access a cool forum version of the slipit Lil Native. Can you share which forum it is?

that's a great looking blade right there. i wish spyderco would bring back some models with that kind of sculpting.

i did laugh a little though thinking about how people complain what lengths spyderco will go to these days to keep a lanyard hole on the knife. have they not seen this one?! 😂
