First off what is wrong with having 1 model in your thousand page line up being made for something else then all the others?
Secondly i think you and many others are pushing a bad vibe because it seems everytime Spyderco goes out of its way to offer a finger you guys want an entire arm… instead being grateful because you just got a new bunch of 15V and rex 121!
For me its crazy because great user steels are getting shot down lately without reason like now XHP is bad , S30V is bad , S35VN is bad , S45VN is bad,…
THIS whole post ! I am with you Apollo on that one.
CTS XHP is one of my favorite steels alongside with SPY27. I do appreciate Chaparral line and varietes in handles and I can't wait for some that will strike my fancy. Currently FRN version is one of my favorite knives in my humble collection of approximately 15 Spydercos. There are people, like me, who like more simple steels, I got back to freehand sharpening and I am enjoying my Shapton Kuromaku series stones and the fact that I can sharpen on these stones most of the steels I own, I am not interested much in "super" steels apart from K390.
On the note of original post, I am quite excited as this looks like very nice addition to Chap series and I might actually need one.
I'm still testing the handmade prototype of the 3.5" that Roque made. We're a long ways from a production piece.

Still, and I can´t repeat this enough: So cool you´re doing this, Sal!
I would like to join @Wartstein on huge thanks to @sal for doing this even though it will take some time. It is, for me, one of the most anticipated potential releases in years.

Like you i am a die fan of the more user friendly steels. I like some super steels aswel and also own some of them but they bring no real benefit to my knives for me. I like sharpening but not find it worth it needing to sharpen 3 times as long just to have a sharp edge a little bit longer because lets face it super steels edges last longer yes but not that much longer to call them the new wonder of the world…
Sharpening my 10V K2 for example is a pain in my *** that seems to take ages but it does not hold its edge 3 times longer as my S30V blades so i love the K2 but i would have loved it more in our standard steels then i love it now!
I can say this will be the most beautiful chaparral to date the first time i held it in Amsterdam i wanted it already so if you ever in the market for one check it out its really amazing!

Is this the UV reactant CF that I've seen some other knife brands advertising recently?

I believe i read on theyre website Fat carbon indeed makes there Cf UV resisitant to a degree but i do not know how much. However i have custom scales in theyre different Cf's and if i am not using them they are displayed in a displaycase that sees sunlight ultil know i they are stil perfectly in order and the oldest scales are +3 years old now.

The most beautiful stock Chaparral perhaps…

Maybe straddling the gap btw ‘give us more knife steels!’ and ‘be happy with the pedestrian steels please!’, I humbly submit that Spyderco offers their own optimized take on 14C28N

What am I looking at? That is the most breathtaking Chap ever

Not UV resistant, UV reactant. Kizer and Civivi both have new knives coming out that have similar red/grey shredded carbon scales that also glow in the dark
