What did you use your Spyderco for last?
Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
Copied this off Google:
CTS-XHP stainless steel has moderate corrosion resistance, similar to 440C, making it suitable for most everyday knife applications, especially those involving humid environments or exposure to salt and chlorine. While it's not as corrosion-resistant as high-end stainless steels, it's generally considered rust-resistant and suitable for kitchen and outdoor use.
Here's a more detailed look:
Corrosion Resistance:
CTS-XHP is considered a stainless steel, but its corrosion resistance is not as high as some other stainless steels, like 440C. It's susceptible to rusting in extreme conditions, but most users won't experience significant issues in normal use.
Factors Affecting Corrosion:
Chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen can form carbides or nitrides, reducing the amount of these elements available for corrosion resistance, according to Knife Steel Nerds.
Real-World Use:
In practice, most people won't have problems with corrosion on XHP, especially in everyday applications. It performs well in humid environments and with exposure to salt and chlorine, notes LeeKnives.
Limitations:
XHP's corrosion resistance is not as good as higher-grade stainless steels, and it's not suitable for highly corrosive environments, according to a Reddit thread.
Maintenance:
Regular cleaning and drying, especially after use in harsh environments, can help prevent corrosion.
The steel sounds really good to me, don't have a knife of the steel around here. My favorite thing is to hone the knife also, to see just how it acts doing that also.
Good hard steel at my house is what I like along with the corrosion resistance.

@RyanY Never a one, but I've also never exposed it to salt or chlorinated water.

Used my new Endela WC K390 to cut (and scrape, if I'm being honest) old weather-stripping away on a door on my horse trailer. WC was exceptional for this task, although the blade now has sticky residue on it. I'm always a little hesitant the first time I use a new knife, but now it's mine and ready for use!

Used my Manbug Wharnie to do some serious box cutting today. That thing really punches above its weight class. I’m a Wharncliffe believer! (Just make me a lefty Yojimbo please)

Used the tip of my Manix 2 LW Maxamet to carefully lift small paper labels off a smooth tabletop.

Cutting a hole in the bottom of a children's playset to drain the water that had somehow accumulated in it.

No pics of it and did nothing special, but I used my Dragonfly Salt SE to cut up a good-sized Cosmic Crisp apple, peel an orange, and open a couple of passion fruits this morning.

That knife has a really good looking handle on it. That knife has so good length to it also...
Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
they're discontinued but pop up on ebay for $80-150 typically. it's a great small fixed blade that can fill pretty much any outdoors role. fishing, hiking, camping, bushcraft, food prep, etc.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Dispatched some trout.

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
I have let the hedges get totally out of control, so with my Manix2XL in one hand to defend me from whatever sorts of wild Natives comes out of them, I head straight in to attack the hedges with the RedMaxx in the other hand... and yes I am getting to old to want to do this anymore lol... unfortunately I need to do this ughhhh.
It's like a freaking forest around here and you never know what sorts of Natives might be hiding in them, but I hear they all taste like chicken lol...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
Just amazed how clean of a line this knife cut through my orange. Still kind of learning to embrace the SE blade and this definitely helps

Sometimes the Polestar. Sometimes the Bow River.

The Bow River looks really nice in that picture.
