Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
It would be nice if I could send pics i appreciate most (out of my pics) but i guess that would defeat the purpose of having a collection of photos of the week.. (from that thread)

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
I found that photos from earlier posts disappeared. I restored some photos by transferring them to other photo hostings. I hope this is not against the rules.
Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
Not at all. Thank you for making the extra effort! :)

Hi Attila,
When Kristi volunteered to take on this somewhat enormous project, we didn't discuss a date. Frankly, she is one of the few crew that I believe could actually drive the project to completion. That's on top of her other responsibilities. I think the pressure of a due date could stress the project.
This book could be a work of art. The folks that take these pictures are really exceptional.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
Also since many of the pictures of the earlier times are lost for this project. (members that are no longer active and picture hosting sites shut down,…)
I think its a good thing to take this slow so there will be more pictures to come in the present day that will be worthy to get in the book.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
A great project. I look forward to seeing the release of the book and I may buy a few copies and give away one or two.
I'm hoping it's a coffee table book, for people to browse.
Is this posted over on Blade Forums? It might be a good idea to post it there and keep it active for reach.

Great idea! I'll start digging back through the thread. It's been awhile since I've submitted any pics but there's some in there for sure
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
Love it, always liked the idea of a coffee table type book. Don’t envy who has to choose who gets in considering there’s so many amazing photos over the years! Can’t wait to grab my copy

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
why not start with calendar submissions? you own the photos now and have years worth of submissions and you aren't limited to what made it into the calendars. you could probably make a book just with the calendar winners and other submissions that you liked but didn't meet requirements or make it into the calendars for whatever reasons.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
This is actually a very good idea! I also like the nod to the little picture sharing group here too. A lot of overlap. I look forward to seeing the book either way.ladybug93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 6:02 pmwhy not start with calendar submissions? you own the photos now and have years worth of submissions and you aren't limited to what made it into the calendars. you could probably make a book just with the calendar winners and other submissions that you liked but didn't meet requirements or make it into the calendars for whatever reasons.

I hope this is a hard back huge book. I could see this on small tables in businesses and living rooms.

We would love that, too. As it stands today, I have only received 28 images. We're going to need more.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
Admittedly, I have not submitted any images yet but I have every intention of submitting numerous. Still need to get them off old hard drives and compile them for submitting.
Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
As has been said before, if use the non-winning photographs from the Forum Calendar Contest competition for a book, you'll end up with many interesting, high-quality shots.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
I'll try to send some photos as soon as possible. I would have more but many of them contain products from other brands and that is prohibited.

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week - Book
I'm not a lawyer, but am a former aspiring pro photographer and former ASMP/PPA member, where I learned a few things about this. The calendar is one usage where copyright usage/license was granted by posting to the thread for that year's calendar. I'm not sure it's safe to assume any additional usage/license is automatically granted. That's why I'm asking.
Does the simple act of posting an image to the forum or for a calendar automatically grant all other possible usage/licenses? Unless the forum signup terms state that, I would guess not, but it's best to be sure. That is one advantage of having explicit submissions for each use. While it may be doubtful anyone who is a member of the forum would have an issue with that additional usage, that is an unsafe assumption when dealing with the potential future estate of that individual. I don't want to rain on the parade, but also don't want Spyderco exposed to any unnecessary risk.

Submitting images for the calendar contest requires surrendering your intellectual property rights to the submitted photo.TimButterfield wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 9:22 amI'm not a lawyer, but am a former aspiring pro photographer and former ASMP/PPA member, where I learned a few things about this.
