Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
This Sage 6 looks like an upgraded Sage5 on steroids, with the Smock, both of which I have and really like. So is it just me or is our bug bite just getting worse?
I feel pretty much helpless anymore when it comes right down to these Spyderco knives and products, soon as I see or read about one I don't have, or a new model all together, heck I'm down for it, might even be down for two lol.

This is going to make the Sage5 obsolete!

Excellent! On the "buy" list for sure.

I'm just glad the S30V one is standard production so I don't feel like I need to grab one right away. X1

Available now @ SFO. Sold 3 this morning, and 4 online already. This particular example was textbook - felt very nice, great/tight/early lockup, smooth and no lockstick.
It only makes logical sense that we might see this appearing on the Para 3 in the near future.

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
I tried my hardest to get the knife to unlock via gripping it, and while I can feel the button, there is nothing there to push it shut. To me, it seems like a non-issue. Also, this was only whilst gripping it left handed (which I am). Holding it right handed, it clears your hand.

NOT an issue I´ve ever encountered myself, but there are those few accounts of "regular" comp.locks getting unlocked by accident when people grip the handle very firm (and with gloves? Can´t recall).
The button could actually make the lock even more secure...? Just a guess, and again: Each comp.lock I personally used was perfectly secure anyway, even in hardest use.

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
To me it definitely does, from all I can see.
Imo it would be great to "cqi" each comp.lock knife that allows for that to a button comp.lock... (probably not easy or not even possible with the "choilless" designs? Like Bodacious and Caribbean?)

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
As always thanks for the heads up on everything, it's very much appreciated. If memory serves it's usually not more than a couple weeks ~ a month at the outside from being on spyderco.com --> hitting the streets, am I right about that or is the window larger/longer usually?Buddafucco wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 8:14 pmS30v:

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
I think that's probably a lot more work on the back end that most folks would think....
That said a G10 Para3 button-lock would be amazing!

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
Yep, I haven't had any issues w/ my compression locks, and I don't think I would with this knife either. Honestly its pretty much the perfect EDC knife, especially in G-10. The G10 and Taichung build help it to feel quality, while the blade shape and ergonomic handle make it wonderful to use in daily tasks. The lock enhances it's usability, especially for lefties like me. I have a feeling it is going to open up a new market segment that Spyderco has never really gone after before (lefties) that have shyed away from most of their offerings (due to the compression lock). While i have no trouble w/ any comp locks, it was an active pursuit for me, and I worked around it and now it is second nature, but that is not most people, or lefties.Wartstein wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 10:31 pmRed Leader wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 4:43 pm...I tried my hardest to get the knife to unlock via gripping it, and while I can feel the button, there is nothing there to push it shut. They told me that it has the second detent, like the Smock, to keep it from accidentally opening upon releasing the button - I tried it, and it didn't fall open. When I asked about it, they speculated it was likely due to the knife shipping to places w/ more overzealous laws regarding gravity knives. With that second detent out, it would probably have even nicer action, but in comparison w/ my Rex-121 Sage 5, it felt nearly identical, even w/ this second detent, so it is probably going to only be better. The knife might be so good some might find it boring, ha!
With how many people are excited over this one, and how well executed it is, a Para 3 button lock is inevitable for the future, which is going to be pretty cool.

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
I agree, and I’m somewhat ambivalent on a button actuated knife.
Button locks are extremely popular (at least right now), and it provides much better accessibility of the compression lock to lefties. Plus it removes one of the biggest critiques of the compression lock - it takes away that lock cutaway in the top of the knife handle that would gouge some users.
Personally, I do not like traditional button-activated plunge locks because the plunge lock seems like such a weak design in practice. Of course, that is irrelevant here. It is really the best iteration because you get the ease of use with the button, but the benefits of the comp lock.
I do have a Sage 5, and while I have knives I like more, the Sage series, now with the addition of the button, does seem like the ‘all in one’ knife many people are looking to find.
Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED
Bodacious with a button would be even cooler, but then I am pretty sure they could not make that work with the wide blade with no choil in the (in relation to the blade width!!) rather narrow handle...
A Shaman with the thinner blade stock of the Bodacious and button would be nice enough too...
