Weather has kept me from playing the last week and a half and I'm having withdrawals. Definitely hoping to get in some throws soon.

Finally got brave enough to ignore the weather and just play! Got my 1st snow birdie to boot. Water proof shoes are a must and will keep me playing with weather like this.

I miss snow golf. It was peaceful. I enjoyed being out in nature after a heavy snow in general because it was always so quiet.

We developed some funny strategies for deep snow rounds. Chalk or streamers taped to the bottom of discs. Gotta watch your throws carefully. Good time to practice standstill driving too.

Good stuff! It has been a couple weeks since I've been out on the course myself. Mostly because I've been busy with other things but deep fluffy snow has been a deterrent for me as well.

I'm not really averse to the cold - it's the increased risk of losing discs under the snow that I don't like. I've considered trying the streamer technique that Vivi mentioned but I always talk myself out of it for fear of it falling off mid throw and then losing the disc.

I went to the DISC EAST Expo this past Saturday and have a bunch of photos to share. I'll get them compiled and posted in a few. :cheap-sunglasses

The DISC East expo was a great time. There is a DISC South Expo coming up at the start of March (March 1st & 2nd) so if any of this piques your interest, there will be another opportunity to experience it in about one month from now.

Image
https://discsouth.com

_____

The day started in the “VIP” early access line. There were about 300 people in line for early access to the expo which got us a special VIP disc and we could shop for an hour before the general access line was allowed in.

Believe it or not, this is a single file line that everyone respected!
Image

Once inside, the majority of people went to the MVP booth or the Discraft booth. I knew I’d be going to both during the day, so I jumped in the Discraft line because it was shorter.
Image

Innova booth
Image

Half of the Discraft booth - these were Paul McBeth and Anthony Barela’s signature releases for the expo and where they were signing discs.
Image

Ken Climo was also there representing his new brand, “Climo Disc Golf”
Image

There were two rooms full of vendors!
Image
Image

Of course there is a lot more than just shopping for new discs too! There’s a mini course setup in the lobby, there are pro players doing meet and greets, a temporary 9 hole course set up outside of the venue, a “Birdie Pro” board game room, seminars with pros and big disc golf personalities… its a really great time for anyone who enjoys disc golf!

Seminars all day!

And once the sun sets, Disc in the Dark sets the 9 hole course up for some glow disc golf!

Here’s the staging area with people ready to get their glow round in
Image

And just a shot of some baskets lit up in the woods. I was so busy inside that I never even checked out the 9 hole course in the daylight.
Image

———

And of course all the goods purchased during the day!

Started out at Discraft and got a handful of discs signed by Paul McBeth and Anthony Barela
Image
Two of AB’s new “Cigarra” test flight prototypes, two Buzzz Saw, a Scorch, and two Luna’s.

Made sure to get a couple of the “Buzzz Saw” because they look so cool and a Scorch to match.
Image

Followed that up with a stop at the MVP booth to get a couple prototypes and a stack of discs signed by Simon Lizotte
Image
V2 and V3 of his new prototype midrange “Balance,” a Tour of Terror eclipse “Pixel,” a “Leicester, Ma.” total eclipse “Pixel” and neutron “Timelapse” that were limited edition during the 2024 MVP Open, and a regular “Pixel” that I currently putt with.

Had to get one of each of Ken Climos new discs as well as have him sign a couple of my most reliable Ken Climo 11x signature Wraiths.
Image
Champ, Bellaire, and Skyway. As well as the two Wraith’s he signed.

Made sure to get some discs signed by local Massachusetts pro player, Casey White!
Image
Horizon Sky walker FD1, metal flake Casey White Ace FD1, and color glow horizon c-line Spooky Series Sky Walker II FD1.

Got my hands on a prototype “Canyon” from Trash Panda Disc Golf and figured I might as well get it signed by the owner and creator of the company, Jesse.

In case anyone isn’t aware of Trash Panda discs - it’s a brand that was started in 2020 by the creator in his garage and it has grown into the reputable brand it is today. Watching his growth has been very inspiring and it’s a really cool story so I’m happy to support his efforts!

Image
Canyon

I’m normally kind of bias towards Innova but surprisingly only left with one of their discs.

Mako 3 with a stamp inspired by the New England staple - Dunkin Donuts! :grin-squint
Image
Mako3

The cherry on top and main reason for lining up early is the custom VIP stamped proton Axiom Pixel!

Image

I had all the professional players at the expo sign it as a fun way to keep myself busy during the day. (Simon Lizotte, Paul McBeth, Anthony Barela, Ken Climo, Gannon Buhr, Casey White, Will Shusterick, James Proctor, Jay “Yeti” Reading)

All in all, the 2025 DISC East Expo was a blast and I already know I’ll be back for the next one! :party-face

It really was an honor to meet all those guys! It's a humbling experience getting to meet some legends like Ken Climo and Paul McBeth. It's surreal to know they are widely considered the two greatest disc golf players of all time. Given their legendary status in the sport, it's amazing how cool and approachable they are.

I was surprised by how down to earth and personable Ken Climo was. He must be awesome to hang with out on the course! :cheap-sunglasses

To meet some of the rising big timers like AB and Gannon Buhr is always fun too. It's so easy to think of them as celebrities disengaged from the fans but they're still just normal people like the rest of us. Just really good at disc golf too!

Simon Lizotte is one of my favorite players too. He gets so much attention during the expo but still remains genuine and approachable. His tendency to be straightforward in conversation is so refreshing. The line to meet him and get his discs is always like a 45 minute wait - it's an impressive amount of fan appreciation, so I definitely try to approach with reverence and glean as much as I can from him whenever I get the opportunity to meet him.

Just a few bucks. :grin-sweat I actually brought cash with me to limit how much I spend but I still ended up needing to get the card out... I've never had good impulse control! :grin-squint

Thanks, Jeff! It really was a good time. I'd be tempted to go to the DISC South Expo in Texas but I think I might try to make it to BLADE Show this year instead. :cheap-sunglasses

I know nothing about frisbee golf but I’ve got a good story. A few years ago I was considering playing at a course that isn’t far from here. (Never happened). Anyway, i did a quick search on youtube and ended up watching a 2021 world championship. I watched the entire event from beginning to end. At the beginning of the event my buddy and I each picked one of the competitors. I think we bet $2 or something, haha. Anyway, I picked this tall, lanky kind of hippie looking guy named James Conrad. I’m sure some of you who play know the tournament I’m referencing and what happened, but if anyone hasn’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it from beginning to end like I did. So worth it! Such an awesome competition to watch and the ending was insane. I was so grateful that I didn’t know anything about the results or the competitors so it was like I was watching it live. Amazing finish!!

That's just epic! I don't think you could have stumbled across a more serendipitous introduction to the sport! :grin-squint

I agree that the whole round is worth watching to get a full grasp for the weight of that shot. As @270ultimate pointed out, it is known as "The Holy Shot" in the disc golf community and often regarded as "the greatest shot in disc golf history."

I remember when disc golf was getting started and it was called Frisbee Golf. There weren't special discs, only standard frisbees at the time. As the sport quickly caught on heavier and more specialized discs became available. It is a fun sport. I've seen many a disc ruined by whacking a tree.

So far I've only broken one disc while playing. I was playing mid-winter in temps below 20º F and hit the first available tree with an old weathered disc... Instantly shattered! :rofl

----------

I hit an ace today! :party It is my longest ace so far at 261 feet, according to the sign. Tee pad is in the red circle.

Wasn't lucky enough to record this one on video but I did get another ace on video a couple months ago. I'll upload it somewhere and post it here soon.

Also had a throw with a funny landing that I've never seen before. The disc wedged itself into the end of an old log and stuck without budging. Seeing it stop dead in its tracks was totally unexpected.
