Stretch 2 xl In K390 At Last!
Re: Stretch 2 xl In K390 At Last!
@endura3 Can't wait for my model to show this kind of patina, K390 really is special this way IMO.
Re: Stretch 2 xl In K390 At Last!
Received mine last week,,,, rather disappointed,,, stiff opening spring and not very smooth action. Did a Gunny Glide application twice and WOW,,,, transformed the knife completely. The pivot screw tension was fine and no adjustment was needed. Press of lockbar and blade now free drops.
In addition, stropped the apex with 6 micron diamond paste and treated the blade with EDCI.
Just ordered a second knife for backup,,,, if the import taxes are applied, the price will become much higher.
Displaced my Endura collection as EDC knife.

Family portrait! I love my Enduras; really I do. But this design has grown on me rather quickly. Most folders with that hook on the butt really cramp the grip and it just isn’t comfortable. The handle on the S2XL though is nice and big with plenty of room and a joy to use! It doesn’t get unwieldy when choked up on in the very lightweight model. Seriously, this is a large knife with a confidence inspiring loud “thwacky” back lock. Japan’s FRN always gives substantial and the whole package feels tough and capable.
Dack delivered in about a month for a great price. My particular model is ground a little obtuse at the tip and arrived with the pivot a bit too loose for my taste. Fortunately those issues are easily fixed with a torx bit and some diamonds. I think it’s worth mentioning to help set expectations. Golden knives seem to have tighter tolerances and the Seki-City line offers great value. I’m more likely to be accepting of doing a little tweaking straight out of the box and really dialing it in due to relative affordability. I mean, where else are you going to get a big slab of k390 geometry perfection — paired with a tough as nails, light as a feather, melt in your palm handle for less than the cost of dinner for 2 at that restaurant my wife wants me to take her? No mods for this one — in fact, I think I’ll EDC it for the next month. It’s that good.

I just placed an order yesterday for a Stretch XL in K390. After using the serrated K390 Endura I want to experience this amazing steel in plain edge. I plan to give it a coarse edge at 10 dps.

Finally.... After 40 days of waiting, my Stretch 2 XL lightweight in k390 arrived from Dack outdoors! Super stoked, feels great in hand and super lightweight for its size. Straight in the pocket for today's yard work.

Continuing to be extremely happy with this. Coming up on 3 months of carry, and I've had no urge to use any other knives. It can do everything I need and weighs under 3 oz.
My lock has also seemingly "settled in" to a point where there's pretty minimal rock, no horizontal play, and great action considering the lack of washers. I haven't had to mess with any of the screws since I put threadlocker on them about 2 months ago. Still haven't accidentslly snapped it in half due to the linerless construction either.
Overall, really incredible design and execution.

Patina looks great!
Re: Stretch 2 xl In K390 At Last!
Thank you! I love how K390 patinas.

Mine arrived and I’ve been too busy to use it. I love the light weight and the handle shape. Maybe in May. Happy Easter, everyone.

If any of you also have a leafjumper, how does the Stretch XL compare in action? The Stretch XL g10 Cruwear is very smooth and flick open and snaps down when past the point of tension. The Rockjumper k390 in Cruwear is even smoother and very tight for an FRN clad knife. My stretch 2 on the other hand is not smooth at all and will not snap down when closing.
Is the FRN liner less XL more like the FRN Stretch 2 in action or like it’s G10 version?

While I don't own and have only handled a leaf jumper, I've found there's some level of variation in every lock back model I've had. My K390 XL has a great level of self close bias, while my VG-10 has a fraction less and is easier to overcome the spring when opening. If your stretch 2 isn't smooth and doesn't have any level of self close bias I'd recommend loosening the pivot to see if that helps. When the pivot's too tight it doesn't allow the spring to keep the knife closed.Jayrod1980 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 7:46 pmIf any of you also have a leafjumper, how does the Stretch XL compare in action? I don’t know why I said K390 in Cruwear… that makes no sense. I think I just have a dud Stretch 2. I bought the XL 2 in K390 and it’s awesome, especially for having no liners or washers. What makes a difference in it feeling more solid is, once you’ve broken the action in, to tighten down the body screws and adjust the pivot. The body screws come from the factory very loose. Once the knife is more snug it’s as solid as an FRN folder can be, liners or no liners. As I wear in the knife I also tighten the pivot more to retain the action but eliminate blade play.
I really love the XL after owning it and it’s pretty much the same carry size as the stretch 2, just with a longer blade and better in every way.
