Yes, they don't care though. They won't do anything unless Spyderco files a complaint. They have a very strong financial incentive to let the counterfeiters sell whatever they want.

Basically is that because with each sale that criminal makes stealing intellectual property from Spyderco, Ebay makes money? It is very low and evil.
Essentially that is theft from sal and everyone at Spyderco.

Ebay does care about it's cash flow, even if it from Counterfeit Merchandise.
Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
Nah... akapennypincher - that's provably false...
I've reported various ones in the past, as recently as 2024, and Ebay has indeed not only contacted me to follow-up and thank me, but removed the items and/or sellers as well.
I assure you that I am not in any way "Spyderco". Though I am a fan of their knives and own a few-ish...

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
I purchase quite a few eBay Spyderco knives annually, but I have been bitten before. I consistently find misinformation or really strangely worded descriptions as a primary indicator of something fishy. And 99.5% of the time, in my experience, deals are often not found on eBay unless the knife is used or discontinued and the seller isn't aware of its secondary market value.u.w. wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 1:35 pmNah... akapennypincher - that's provably false...

With regard to reporting and eBay's response, I have seen them take immediate action as well as reach out to me for more details.

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
There are no deals on new knives on eBay, and ones listed as new are far more likely to be counterfeit or have only stock photos in the listing (huge red flag). I always set the filter for used only, and ships from US only, when looking on eBay. I've gotten some great deals before and I have yet to get a counterfeit.xceptnl wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 2:23 pmI purchase quite a few eBay Spyderco knives annually, but I have been bitten before. I have reported many many counterfeit knife sellers (Spyderco, SOG, CRKT, and others) and I have never seen eBay take any action.

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
I don't doubt that they do take action at times, but I have never had ebay follow up with me on any sort of counterfeit goods I have reported, including some really quite poor and blatant fakes. I think more often than not sellers are allowed to get away with it.u.w. wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 1:35 pmNah... akapennypincher - that's provably false...

I bought a counterfeit Benchmade Tengu a while ago! Ebay wanted me to return the knife to the seller which I refused to do because he would use it to scam someone else so I ate the cost, but the counterfeiter lost his copy and did end up getting banned from Ebay. That's the only counterfeit I have purchased from Ebay. The other knives I have purchased, including several Spydercos, are genuine. I purchase used normally.

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
Buying used knives on eBay is typically safer than buying ones marked new. It's good to look at the other products the seller has listed too. If it's some guy that's obviously selling pieces from a personal collection, odds are pretty good you'll get a legit knifeBlayd wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 9:24 pmI bought a counterfeit Benchmade Tengu a while ago! I reported a seller today and within an hour they had removed both listings. This guy has an entire store full of Spyderco knockoffs, if you want to join me in reporting all of his listings. (https://www.ebay.com/str/knive?_trksid)

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
My daily search emails from eBay are clogged with clones lately, all models, current and discontinued. I filed several reports to eBay. All returned to me stating review team found no evidence of copyright violations. Be wary, be smart, look at seller place of origin, look for strange fonts, blade marking placement, font sizes, measurements in photos (using metric units only). All of these will help you discern fakes from legit Spydies. If the deal is too good, on a new item, chances are it's not a genuine Spyderco.

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
Ironic this seller doesn't use "Spyderco" in its listing names, yet they pulled the items from this seller, yet the one I reported used exact Spyderco naming in the listing and the eBay reviewers didn't flag them as in violation. My guess is the knowledge of the product, or lack thereof.jwesley235 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 2:44 pmI reported a seller today and within an hour they had removed both listings. I have reported a few Spyderco fakes on eBay, even why they were fakes, and they have never taken one down.xceptnl wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 10:53 amIronic this seller doesn't use "Spyderco" in its listing names, yet they pulled the items from this seller, yet the one I reported used exact Spyderco naming in the listing and the eBay reviewers didn't flag them as in violation. Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
Huzzah! Late last night I found a seller on eBay offering Shamans for 39.00. No indication anywhere in the listing that they were "replicas" or anything like that. Clearly representing them as authentic Spyderco products (though they listed the Shamans as PM2s).
I've reported listings before and always got a reply that eBay found nothing wrong, so I had given up on reporting, but this one really ticked me off for some reason. The seller was listed as in Azerbaijan, but shipping was from California. They also had other fake Spydies listed.
I reported it with wording that they were clearly fake, and if the seller thought they were real they would be listed for $250 or more, and added that allowing these listings harms honest eBay sellers.
To my surprise, less than 12 hours later I got a reply from eBay that they had taken the listing down, and I can't even find the seller on there anymore so they may have taken all of their listings down.
I don't know why this report worked. Perhaps they received a few others for the same seller.
One small victory, but I'll take it.

Re: Another ebayer selling counterfeits
Wow, took a look at a few. Seller puts a Manix 2 box in the ebay picture that might very well be genuine to steer the customer into thinking that it could be a real Spyderco, then indeed says 'Original' in the 'Original/Reproduction' point. Blotted out the 'S' in Spyderco so there is no true full 'Spyderco' logo in the picture...possible to skirt the rules?
This seller has a ton of these fakes to sell.
