Office Workers: What do you EDC?

#1

Post by Infinite Zero »

We hear a lot about carry for outdoor use, general everyday use and specialty industries, but not a lot about office carry. What does everyone carry for a day at the office?

My office is pretty restrictive in blade length due to being a European-owned company, so my Manix XL and Police 4 have to stay at home. I’m also a bit of an outlier in the fact that though I’m mostly in an office setting, I do work in an industrial facility that has some areas that I need to work in that are rather hard on blade steels that have a lower level of stain resistance.

Because of these factors, I alternate between a PE Magnacut UKPK and a PE LC200N Salt 2 Wharncliffe. Most of my use is opening boxes with occasional zip tie cutting (I prefer to use a nipper for that if I have one handy). I find these knives perform well, don’t attract attention and hold up in areas that have caused light patina to form on S30v or Spy27.

Either the Urban, Chaparral or Lil' Native.

I'm sharing my office with three female co-workers, and all of them assured me that neither of those knives is threatening to them.
Native 5 C41PCBL5, C41GP5
Delica 4 C11FPWCBK, C11FPBK, C11PBK, C11FPK390, C11FSK390
Lil' Native C230MBGP, C230NLGP
Chaparral C152SGY, C152GY
Urban C127PBK

I am in the construction industry, but work in an office. Currently my most carried Spydercos are the Military 2, Bodacious, and the Swayback in that order. Finding the right pair of pants allowed me to diversify more easily. I am also in Georgia, USA, so I do not have any limitations really.

If you're limiting this to Spydercos, it's the Techno 2, but it's actually the small 21 insingo micarta Sebenza that's usually in my pocket.

I work in an office, and edc all kinds of knives - whether they’re “office friendly” or not.
Many times, I’ll be caught carrying a Native Chief or Police 4 LW, even.

Mostly, however, I really like carrying my Siren cf/s90v.
Sometimes, I’ll do a chaparral, ukpk or Roadie XL.

When I was still working I would carry on my person a small Victorinox and either a Chaparral or Para 3 LW. In my backpack I would have an Endela wharncliffe serrated and a Glock 26. All of which would have seen me being escorted out the door. But I road the train to work everyday and you just couldn't be too careful. ;) ;)

Para 3 in 20cv or a Manix 2LW in s110v. Used to have a Native, but clip is terrible to dress pants.
Found myself with a Terminus XR clone more recently because less space in pocket, and enough texture to no snag on slack pockets

I work a desk for an outpatient diagnostic facility. Work clothes consist of scrubs. My knife use is mostly opening boxes of printer paper or other office supplies. My work EDC is the one area where I mostly carry a non-Spyderco knife (Civivi Baby Banter). When I carry Spyderco knives it's my Chaparral LW or Rhino. Looking forward to the upcoming Lil' Native LW to see if it could be my main work EDC.

Do yourself a favor and get a real Terminus XR LTE in S35VN. It's a very fine EDC, and well worth the price.

I work in scrubs, without pant pockets so i can´t really carry anything in my pockets without patients and staff seeing the knife. I carried a dodo for a while but the main problem is that the scrubs are thrown into an automated clothing dispenser every night after my shift.
I have lost scissors and a watch this way so i normally only carry a scissor.
I could carry a neck knife like my SPOT. Maybe i should try that.

100% agree, except I lend that clone out 100% care free. Also my knife joy 20cv Para3 is just great everywhere else. I edc that 90% of the time, just a boss saw me spidie flick and made a “boss isn’t comfortable” comment

Until I had to let my Gayle Bradley Air go so I could make it onto a plane, that was the perfect office knife.

The original Chaparral is also awesome.

I forget how touchy-feely office culture can be in current-year, especially in big cities.

I'm the terminal manager for a small trucking company that specializes in transportation of agricultural commodities, based in a medium sized southern city. I'm the only office employee at the terminal and no one bats an eye (even corporate when they make the rare appearance) at the beater S&W 9mm and the Cold Steel OSS in my top desk drawer.

I’m an engineer who spends some days at the office and other days in the field. When out of the office, I’ve started carrying my Bodacious. In the office, I carry my Para3 20cv with light blue FRN scales.
