I really wish I had been aware of Spyderco at a much earlier age. Even though I had knives and was into knives, we just had no idea what was out there back then, there was no big knife store to shop at or an online website for knives, so the exposure was just so small. You knew about the big name sporting goods store brands like Buck and Gerber and KABAR but that's about it. I don't even remember seeing knife magazines until I was already into Spyderco, and I had even worked in a book store in the '90s.
100%
I was into hunting and shooting from an early age, and as far back as my early teens I went to specialized magazine stores to spend my hard earned money on imported hunting and gun magazines from the US. Can't ever remember seeing a knife magazine back then. And wherever I could buy hunting gear, guns etc. they just carried the regular suspects like Gerber and of course the local Scandinavian brands like Helle, Brusletto, Fällkniven and Mora. Never a Spydeco or Benchmade back then.

I'd rather have my Terzuola collection than every single PM2 variant.. Just sayin'

I'd rather have your Terzuola colletion too. Heck, I think I'd choose just even one of those over every single PM2 variant.

There's something about the simplicity of the Terzuola designs that just speaks to me. To the point I sometime contemplate buying the Mariner 2. The price is ridicules, so it never leads anywhere, but the lust is real.
This inclination toward Terzuola designs is something I've only recently have become aware of, so I don't even want to think of the opportunities I might have missed out on for not realizing earlier. There's just so many designs and so much history - it takes time for a knife rookie to compartmentalize and figure out what's worth pursuing..

It's not just the Terzuolas for me, i would hate to part with the Michael Walker set or the Kopas, or the Jess Horns .. or the Lums or.. just about any of the vintage Spydies.. :)

What model is that Terzuola on the top? I like the look of that a lot.

It's the revised Starmate. Same model as the bottom in that photo, but has 2 liners and different steel, where the original was only a single liner, etc.
I hope for one day soon a new sprint or exclusive of the Starmate with a nice tool steel.

Yeah it looks fantastic. I may have to hunt that down. Was just before I got into knives

Don't mean to hijack a Spyderco thread, but you're right, Terzuola's designs are compelling. I have one of his ATCFs and a couple of his collabs. If you haven't already, you might want to check out Tactile Knife Co.'s re-imagining of the Mariner 2. It's slightly smaller, and the steel is upgraded to CPM MagnCut but, overall, it's pretty faithful to the original. Unfortunately, it's pricey too.

Thanks! I think there's still some way to go before entering hijack territory :)
I actually mentioned the Mariner 2 in my post, but it is prohibitively expensive. If I order from Lamnia, that currently has it on "sale" at 5% off, it will be north of USD 600 before I can bring it home to my sock drawer. Probably close to 650. Even though I love the design and the history, I ultimately buy knives to use them... and 650 is a stretch in that context.

Hi All,

I thought to bump this up. Clear the air (I deleted the negative posts) and let the "Old days" continue.

I'd like to know what's negative about the milestones in Spyderco history but I guess I'll never find out now..

Haha well now it just looks like my posts had negative content, which was not the case.
I'm not worried though. Good move, Sal, to sleep on it and clear your mind.

You are an incredible leader at an incredible company. I have more access to you than the owner of the company I work for and have never heard him apologize ever.

Sal, while I am one of the newer members here, your humbleness impresses me as much as the knives you make. Troy
