I still have two PM2's, I'll dig one out and see but I suspect the issue isn't going to be made any better by making the cutout larger.
I just ordered 2 of the compression lock "CME" buttons last night, one for my SE version and one for the 15v version that's coming soon. Hopefully they fit as well as they do on a Bodacious and then my hot spot problems will be solved.
Thanks, guys, especially 8th_Note for the pics!8th_Note wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 11:02 amIts hard to get a good angle on both of them at the same time (red is PM2, black is Mili 2). The size of the cutout in the right side scale is the same on both. But the button for the lock release is longer on the Mili 2. Also, the cutout is further back on the Mili 2(There is 3/4" of flat between the cutout and the front of the flat on the PM2, there is 7/8" of flat on the Mili 2)
Interesting indeed - there is a clear difference to be seen between the location of the cutouts and size of the lock tabs between PM2 and Millie 2
Might very well be that the intention behind the larger tab on the Millie 2 is to make it easier to operate with gloves or in harsher conditions (or generally).
Wonder if this actually is the case though?
Potentially it could also be the opposite, since the size of the cutouts is the same, but the longer "gaps" between front and back end of the locktab and end of the cutout on the PM2 might even "catch" the finger better?
Really can´t tell, perhaps someone would like to test this.
Concerning the "hotspot-situation": I really could see the longer tab of the Millie 2 making this better - exactly because there is less of a gap between locktab and rim of the coutout.. ?

I threw a “standard” stonewashed clip on because it’s what DLT had in stock. Same length on my S2XL, and it’s been fine.

Here’s a direct comparison with the factory clip.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I went with the short ones. For a second I was caught up in thinking I wanted to hide or at least match the clip contact wear spot on the G10 but then I realized I would rather have a smaller clip that might feel better in use.
Now I need to find one for my Chief LW, which really seems to be a challenge to find one that lands on that logo/smooth area, otherwise it may be a pain to pull out of your pocket. Any of them work with the G10 versions but the FRN is problematic.

I had the same problem with my Tenacious LW. Lynch only makes one Tenacious clip, and it doesn’t land on the smooth part for the LW. I tried it for a week, but it just rips pockets so I sold it off.Evil D wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 9:16 amNow I need to find one for my Chief LW, which really seems to be a challenge to find one that lands on that logo/smooth area, otherwise it may be a pain to pull out of your pocket. I just received my 15v sprint from Indiana Knives. Would definitely pre-order from them again.
I scored another 15V M2 from Knives Ship Free a few days ago, so this one will be in the backup box. Excellent knives all round; very excited.

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

It's a thing of beauty. The fit and finish are perfect. I really like the stonewash they're doing on these 15V runs.
I am however a little bummed about the color, not that I don't like it but I like the Shaman brown a little bit more. I don't think it has to do with the polished finish either, the Shaman is just a cooler shade and the M2 is a warmer almost coyote tan shade.

It's more/less obvious depending on the light.

But like I said I definitely don't dislike the color, I would have been so excited for this back when I wore khakis a lot.
I'm more bummed that it doesn't have the same stonewashed clip like the Shaman and instead is a standard polished clip. The stonewashed clip matches the blade much better.

It also looks like they refined the BBB logo a bit, it's much cleaner and easier to make out now.

But overall it's a home run. I'm a little surprised by how thin the tips are ground on these knives, lately I've been having an internal battle between the Military 2 and Chief and one of the things I thought was more in the M2's favor was a stronger tip but I think that's only on my SE version, this doesn't appear any thicker than the Chief and I would even say that for almost an inch or so up the blade from the tip they are almost identical in height and thickness and it's only until the straight spine goes up high enough to really get wider that it looks any stronger. It's really got me reevaluating how fragile I thought the Chief tip was and also how strong I assumed the M2 tip was when I think where it counts they're pretty much the same.

How many knife tips have you broken on accident?
I've always liked thin tips like the Chief, Catcherman, Buck 110 etc. They pierce nicely. I never do any prying with my tips though. I'll use the spines of knives to pry, especially on fixed blades I use for processing wood, but I reach for a multitool for light prying.
My 15V should be at the house when I get home, or barring that, delivered tomorrow.
Still got a bit to wait for the micarta scales.
Not sure if I want to put black g10 on my 15V and throw the OD Green micarta on my DLC S30V, or do one black one brown scale on the 15V, or one black one green micarta scale on both Millies......

I don't think ever actually, I've only dropped them and chipped the tip off. Probably once in my youth that I don't remember. I also don't use them to pry, it's just a mental thing knowing that it's there if I need to do something stupid. Maybe I have a little leftover mid 2000s tactical hard use lingering in me still lol. I have a couple Microtechs that have really stout tips and when I look at them I get that Home Improvement Tim the Tool Man grunt thing going on.

I actually cannot decipher much color difference with my eye on my phone...
I agree, stonewashed Shaman clip is nice.
I've broken several tips unfortunately, 3 I can recall off the top of my head, a Yojimbo 2 that I had reground to a sheepsfoot, a Stretch, and a Kahr Arms Delica of all things that I still have sitting around with the tip piece next to it like it's going to heal together the longer I wait haha
My Indiana M2 order is still in transit.

I think I might be a bit known around here for not being to fond of rather delicate tips, and these kinds of tips are what I don´t like too much on knives like the Millie or the Chief...vivi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 4:10 pmHow many knife tips have you broken on accident?

I have snapped tips on Spydercos, though I am talking really just about that very last, fine bit of the tip (so at max the last mm, if that "much" at all)
I do like fine and by that in several tasks really useful tips, but the trade of in durability often is not worth it for me - in order to NOT snap such a tip, one has to use the folder in a certain way, or, to put it not that strongly, has to avoid some things I do like to use my folders for. This includes tasks like harder "drilling" or light prying, but especially using the knife "hard AND fast", so in a hurry without having the time to watch the tip.
If it was up to me, I´d give knives like the Millie or the Chief that Endura style drop at the tip, while maintaining the blade length and edge length.
This way anyone who wants an even finer tip, could mod it that way without loosing edge length.
While as it is right now, the other way round (adding that strengthening Endura style drop to a Millie or Chief tip diy) DOES inevitably cost some cutting edge length, even if just a bit.

David,
Whats the CME button for the compression lock? Where is it available?
Thanks,,

It was developed for left handers to make the compression lock easier to operate but it also works for right handers too. I'm finding that they close the gap in the spine of the handle which has been a source of hot spots for me when I use them hard, as with heavy carving or something like that. They also make it much more comfortable to operate in general IMO.

I would also prefer the Endura 4/Delica 4-style dropped tip on the Chief, but we're probably in the minority on that.
But I'd probably prefer to keep the Military's tip as is.
I've only ever broken one tip, and that was only the very fine part of the tip of one of my Tasman Salts.

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
That's pretty cool.
I've always made fun of people using those in my head because the compression lock is already so easy to use (same with cbbl and people getting lighter springs.)
But I never thought about how those could improve ergos for people bothered by the comp lock cut out.
Still think people replacing springs in cbbl's should buy a captains of crush instead!

Personally I prefer Military, Police 1 & Chief style tips. I've never had an issue with snapping tips on my knives, even when using folders quickly at work, so I prefer tips designed with piercing in mind.
Just like I prefer thinner than factory edges because I don't think I've ever chipped a factory edge from Spyderco.
The only factory edge I can remember chipoing was an Opinel with a faulty HT I got replaced.
