First Spyderco (gifted) is it real?
First Spyderco (gifted) is it real?
I'm new to knives and worried this may not be real based on what I've read about counterfeits. I've watched many videos and am confused. Would appreciate your help/advice. The box does say 'Printed in China' and it's missing the blade line markings I see on some Zome Green Delicas.

I have a couple Spyderco Delica's that are without Sal's mark. That doesn't bother me. Your knife sure appears to be perfectly real to me. Good gift! If I had one choice for my first Spyderco it would likely be a Delica. Hands down the finest all around pocket knife EVER!

Welcome to the forum. Based on what I can see in the photos, it does look like a legit example to me.
I agree with jmj - the Delica is a great model. Even having owned many other models, there's still many days where I'll reach and grab a Delica to carry over other knives multiple times the price. It's just a solid simple design and blade that works, and becomes familiar with muscle memory the more often you use it.

Why are there some that don't have Sal's maker mark?

Matches the example in this thread where the consensus was legit(granted only by one person). Have there been any cases of counterfeit Zome that anyone has heard of?

Just fyi for more in depth threads, there's an entire category of the forum dedicated to fakes and counterfeits. I'm sure Kristi will move the thread since OP is new. I just personally haven't seen anyone post a fake Zome there in the time I've been here, but was curious if someone else has.SpeedHoles wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 8:29 pmJust fyi for more in depth threads, there's an entire category of the forum dedicated to fakes and counterfeits. Oh ok yeah, I thought you were actually looking for that info, might be something in there. I haven't seen a Zome counterfeited myself, but I'm also not actively searching through the latest wave of fakes.Fastidiotus wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 8:51 pmI'm sure Kristi will move the thread since OP is new. I believe older variants did not have the maker's mark. I have a purple Delica from 2016 and a stainless handle one from 2018 that don't have it.

Re: First Spyderco (gifted) is it real?
Spyderco added Sal’s maker’s mark to some of the lightweight models a few years ago as a rolling change. Given the Q year code on the box, they might not have put it on these. The pictures show a genuine Delica as far as I can tell.
Re: First Spyderco (gifted) is it real?
Apart from the knife missing Sal’s maker’s mark, nothing screams “fake” to me. As others have said, the maker’s mark was a rolling change and I do have older Delicas without said mark. The box’s date code is February 2017 so it may have very well been before the rolling change. And the boxes themselves are made in China, that’s fine.tmk1159 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:59 pmI'm new to knives and worried this may not be real based on what I've read about counterfeits. I have a delica I purchased from a local knife store around 2012. It does not have the signature mark.
My guess is the signature is a more recent addition
