Dang! Wish someone would get me Spyderco as a gift. That said, Evil D makes a good point about loosening the pivot. You don't have to turn the screw that much either. A quarter turn will drastically change the action of most folders.

imagine you're flicking a marble as far as you can or a classmate's earlobe :D, really follow thru with the flick. Also try to flick it more towards 11-o'clock instead of 9. if you can orient the top of the knife is noon.. this builds up extra tension before the detent releases the blade, same as a index and thumb building up energy for that epic, paper football type of flick. hope this helps

This is clearly better way to illustrate what I meant in my previous posts here (quoting myself: "you don´t want to imagine that you accelerate the blade away from the handle but rather parallel, to the front of the handle with your thumb")! :clinking-mugs

I may borrow this for possible future explanations of how to flick a knife open?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):

For "flicking" I use my index finger. I find it much easier than using the middle finger. I've been carrying a military lately and just spydie dropping it open.

Yep, flick towards the end of the handle in the direction of where the blade will be when locked open, as opposed to just outward away from the handle. It's all about leverage and how much force is applied.

Open and close your middle finger with weight attached like 50 times per day, then it will be strong enough to flick hard!

Another consideration is how your hand and fingers work. Your fingers flex and extend by the contraction of muscles in your forearm. If your arm is all crunched up like a T. rex or Raygun, then you might have a problem
🦖💃🏼

Straighten your arm. You might find that your fingers are more agile.

We should let this thread die and pretend it never happened...has the OP even been back?

And what position might that be?

Thank you all so much for your help! After loosening the pivot and changing my finger positions, I was able to consistently flick it now.

I can't stop fidgeting my Para 3 all day. I love it so much I even got a lume insert for its lanyard hole so it glows in the dark!

I'd be honored if you did. One day I'm hoping to start a YT channel under the same moniker giving similar advice and demonstrations. My bread and butter is going to be showing folks how to manipulate a Delica, Endura, Police backlock as smoothly as a compression lock. All it takes is the correct grip and a tight pocket clip :cheap-sunglasses
