What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Vivi, time they get some exposure to that stuff, you did them good for sure. Great pix too.

Now THAT`S what I call a cool "background"-story for a post in this thread!vivi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:44 amMoving from up by Cleveland / the great lakes to a part of the country where most years there's 0 snow cracks me up sometimes.
Roads are clear. It's nearly above freezing. 80% of the snow from last night melted. But they called a snow day.
So all the neighborhood kids geared up and went out to play in what little snow there is. I went out to check on them and they were trying to build a fire by whacking two rocks together over a wet rotted log.
I asked them if they wanted me to build them a fire for real and they all said YES because it's so cold.
So me and my kid showed them fatwood, how it smells and how to find it. How to do feather sticks and wood shavings. Our lint and wax firestarters. How to use a saw, hatchet and knife to process wood, etc.
Here she is with my temp showing them how to make fatwood shavings.
For most of them it was their first experience with anything like this. They were nervous when I let my daughter use the temperance because none of their parents trust them with a knife, even the older kids. They were pretty jealous when she got to use the saw and hatchet too.

Kudos to you that your daughter may learn and enjoy these skills - here in Austria, when I was a kid, we did stuff like that all the time, not so much these days anymore...
I show the three daughters (now 6, 8 and 14) of one of my brothers outdoor skills quite often... and gifted a Spydie to all of them already, the oldest one now a second one.

Today? Just one: a Lil' Native CPM 10V with custom, canvas micarta scales and pocket clip removed. It carries almost as well as a DF2 in my 5th pocket, but is much more comfortable to use. It's more comfortable in hand than most bigger folders--I have medium sized hands. BTW, this little guy has better action than any of my other Spydercos, except for a Para 3 Crucarta. It simply drops shut.

Good on ya, Dad.
It makes me happy that you were able to sew the seeds of knowledge for the youngin's. But at the same time it makes me a bit sad that you can't just hand out knives to all of them so they can experiment and learn. I guess those that are so motivated will have to do it on their own.

They were all asking if we could take them next time we go camping, and making a big deal about going home smelling like bonfire. It was cute and sad at the same time. Apparently none of them have ever been camping besides my kid, and they're 6-12 y.o.RustyIron wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 8:19 amvivi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:44 amFor most of them it was their first experience with anything like this. Never a bad choice! I don't find it to be the most comfortable knife in hand, but it sure is a looker!

The LNW clip just arrived for my Avacado Native 5. So obviously I had to carry it today, lol. I realize they have a coyote cerakote that matches the PVD coating on the blade. But the bronze anodized finish is a pretty good match too. I suppose I like the shiny finish as opposed to the flat finish PVD..
