The end?
Re: The end?
A Magnacut Chaparral would be the final form of the end game boss for me. Nothing else in the locking knife realm would be able to compete, so would probably stop searching.

Re: The end?
I get what you’re saying @vivi because I’ve always felt the same way about the Dfly salt se and then I got the Native salt in magnacut and so my one and done became two and done…now the Chap se comes along and if it was available in a salt version would trump my two favorites…but when I carry my Stretch 2xl salt or my Pacifics I realize how useful a larger knife can be and my one and done becomes ten and done…I’ve often thought about cleaning house except for a select few but you never know what Sal & Co. are gonna come up with next.
Re: The end?
I've learned to call those moments a "Pause" and not an "End".
Re: The end?
If Spyderco released a Pacific Salt 2 in Magnacut it may actually be the end of my knife collecting adventure. Bonus points if it had grey FRN.
It rains rust in Hawaii.

Re: The end?
Vivi wants an XL Pac Salt with a 5ish inch blade.
Re: The end?
ok id laugh if I bought 5 Military Salts only for them to release a model I may end up liking even more

Re: The end?
Hey, you never know...
Re: The end?
Well, I think they potentially actually could, right...? At least in theory?
Let´s say the Pac Salt XL cabfrank envisions (so also backlock instead of Millie 2 comp.lock... or with a CBBL), but edge all the way to the handle and beefier handle...?
Perhaps you better buy just 4 Millie Salts instead of 5...
But seriously: If you could have the exact Spyderco folder you want in every single detail: Would it really be exactly like the Millie 2 Salt?
Just asking out of interest and the fun in thinking about it, I know and am really glad for you that the Millie 2 Salt is just "your" knife, and that´s cool!

Re: The end?
Yes, if we start to look into different size categories for the knife that ends it all, in that very small size range the Chap SE is really hard to beat (if it also came in "saltish" for those who have to worry about corrosion).SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 10:33 amI get what you’re saying @vivi because I’ve always felt the same way about the Dfly salt se and then I got the Native salt in magnacut and so my one and done became two and done…now the Chap se comes along and if it was available in a salt version would trump my two favorites…but when I carry my Stretch 2xl salt or my Pacifics I realize how useful a larger knife can be and my one and done becomes ten and done…I’ve often thought about cleaning house except for a select few but you never know what Sal & Co. are gonna come up with next.![]()
If we think "overall" it would have to be a Pac Salt / Stretch XL sized folder for me too.

Re: The end?
It will never be “the end”. Something else that is interesting or captivating will surely come along

Re: The end?
I like rotating my edc too much to keep only one in my pocket. Some days I feel like a SAK, others a folder, others a fixed blade.

Re: The end?
I'm the opposite. I enjoy carrying the same knife every day.RugerNurse wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:20 amI like rotating my edc too much to keep only one in my pocket. Some days I feel like a SAK, others a folder, others a fixed blade.
Which knife I feel like carrying a given week / month / year can change of course, but it's typical for me to carry the same knife for long stretches.
I've had years where I carried the same knife every day. Police 3. Millie 1. Buck 110. Pacific Salt. etc.

4.5" cutting edge.
Zero gap of any kind between edge and handle (like a mora for example)
Think I'd go with CBBL for the combination of zero play, smooth operation and self close. I'm enjoying zero play and smooth action on the comp lock Military 2.
Tip up only. Regular spyderco clip mounted 1/2" from edge of handle for non deep carry.
THICK linerless / minimal linered FRN handles with 3D contouring. I'd want a handle as thick as a Buck 110, I dislike the trend of slim handles.
No thumb ramp.
No jimping anywhere.
Smooth contact area under clip. Not at the middle of the handle. Just directly under the clip.
Large opening hole like Pacific Salts.
Salt construction.
Brief case style handle ergos like the Military.
So yeah, if Spyderco let me design my own folder it'd be different than the Military 2. But the existing Military 2 is as close to perfect as I've bought from any company.

Re: The end?
I’ll play.
Manix 3. Basically a Manix 2, sized like a Native. Magnacut with the bumblebee scales.

Re: The end?
I wonder if it would be difficult to get Millie type ergos without a thumb ramp? Perhaps the Bodacious already managed somthing to this effect, you just need hook added to the back of the handle.vivi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:40 am

Re: The end?
it could definitely be done. think a handle close to the resilience but with a bit more curve to the grip.Scandi Grind wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 1:06 pmI wonder if it would be difficult to get Millie type ergos without a thumb ramp? The big challenge IMO would be the combo of CBBL + no hump + easy access to the opening hole. Tough balance to strike, but then again I'm not overly concerned with width in the pocket.
The Resilience is a good starting point for what I have in mind honestly. I'm a really big fan of the size, no choil, blade shape, pretty neutral ergonomics etc.
Re: The end?
In the mid 70’s when I was serving in the military I bought a Gerber folding sportsman. That knife served me well throughout my Coast Guard years and beyond. In those times the Gerbers and the Bucks were the more commonly purchased knives at the PX.
Twenty five years later I bought a Spyderco Delica. No need for a sheath and it was lighter too. It was light years ahead of the old Gerber. From that purchase I bought more Spyderco knives.
The advances over the years in steel and design are amazing. I often wonder what knife I would have today if I were back in the USCG?

Re: The end?
Vivi, I've learned a TONS from your posts on this forum. I'm really happy that you're this excited about a new knife in 2025. I am glad to see it!
Re: The end?
It is fun indeed to muse about hypothetical models or versions of such...
So: I know you prefer comp.lock over linerlock - let´s say they made a comp.lock Resilience Salt, in materials and quality just like the Millie 2 Salt: Which one would you choose... ?
