Yes, G10 models have a steel backspacer :)KeepCalm&Carrion wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 8:10 amI think I'm gonna have to get one of the Native 5's. Does anyone know if the G10 model will have a steel backspacer?
I'm guessing it does, since the N5 G10 SPY27 (which we know has the steel backspacer) weighs 3.1 oz (88g), whereas the N5 G10 15V is slated to weigh 3.2 oz (89g), making the 15V variant slightly heavier than its SPY27 counterpart.

I’m liking the Sage 6. The button intrigues me. Hey, I’m easily amused.
I was hoping for the Charisma though. Hopefully soon, that’s a knife that will vanish until I need it.
As for the Lionsteel/Spyderco thing, I see what people are talking about. Other than the Round Hole, there’s virtually nothing on them that says “Spyderco.” It’s all Lionsteel’s design aesthetic with a Hole grafted on, which kinda spoils Lionsteel’s idea. For the Lionsteel collector who wants to bridge over to Spydies, this might be just the ticket though.

Lionsteel has contiously been unfavorable to disappointing regarding blade thickness and and behind the edge thickness. They certainly make nice looking knives, but rarely functional ones. Plus sometimes their QA is a bit off.Ramonade wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:01 pmI wanna know how people feel about the number of lionstreel designs being spyderized ? I really don't adhere to it, I know that one is not supposed to buy the whole Spyderco line-up, but I'm still having trouble reconciliating lionsteel's production and Spyderco's style of knifemaking. In my eyes, they don't match much
Don't get me wrong I like lionsteel and their design, but most knives have been a let down for cutting purposes.
Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
I had very similar thoughts - these designs weren't exactly designed to be Spyderco's and they were not designed for Spyderco. They really are just lionSTEEL knives with Spyderco logos, a Spyderco clip, and a thumbhole added on. It's not that I don't like the knives they're making but I do feel some concern about the precedent it might set. Is adding a Spydiehole and some authorized logos enough for a Spyderco collaboration? That feels like a very passive method of producing a collaboration. Does that mean the door could be open for collaborations with brands such as Victorinox or Opinel?Ramonade wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:16 pm
It's not really about the opening hole, more about the conception. These designs haven't been "made to be Spydercos". My issue is that they just feel like a Spydiehole has been slapped on them, and that's it.
When I look at previous collaborations, it feels like the maker/designer especially made a knife for Spyderco, or has a knife design philosophy close to Spydercos. For me, most of lionSTEEL designs take a shot a knifemaking from a totally different angle.
I don't know if I'm saying stuff that is even understandable. It's not a dig at lionSTEEL designs, I actually like the designs even if I have to admit that I never like their geometry.
I'm not speaking out against these collaborations, more so just sharing observations I've made. I know they've worked with lionSTEEL since around 2011 but their prevalence has certainly increased in the past couple years or so; beyond what could be considered an exception and now more of the norm.

My time around here is more pleasant when light hearted statements aren’t put under a loupe and dissected too seriously, but I’ll go on a limb and say it again. I like what I see here, and even if the pattern I hope I’m seeing exist only in my head, there’s quite a bit here that’s pretty cool in its own right. ... The Sage has really broken out of the shadows lately. From being an interesting model that always was pushed back in line for something I considered more relevant, it is now at a point where I have a hard time choosing only one Sage.
I may owe you an apology for last time. I think I was the first to ask "what trend do you see?" but I meant it out of simple curiosity, reasoning that my betters could see trends that I couldn't.
I'm inclined to think that Spyderco has become more market-oriented of late, listening more intently to user desires, and throwing fewer hail-Marys than they used to. I miss the outrageously creative hail-Marys but appreciate how they've dialed in on what buyers want, and this release seems full of crowd-pleasers.
Regards the Sage. As you know I'm a big Caly 3 fan, but the Sage has gradually taken over the Caly's pocket time because (like the Caly) it's the right length in the pocket, and in use, for me. It's a little chubby (tall) but that's OK. It's the downsized Manix, if you will. Plus, it has the upgraded steels, I like the comp lock, and it comes in a forget-it's-there LW version. So for me an M4 Sage5 has emerged as a serious contender, and spends a lot of time in pocket. With S90V or MagnaCut...wow!

Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
It's more of a subjective thing but I share the same view. I might be able to buy a lionSTEEL if every setting is right (I never like the primary grind, even on 2mm bladestock theyr purposefully leave it very thick) but I would not buy a Spyderco that is just a lionsteel design slightly, slightly modified.vilePossum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:51 amLionsteel has contiously been unfavorable to disappointing regarding blade thickness and and behind the edge thickness. In my eyes, even when the collaboration with a knife maker/designer is based on a knife that already exists (meaning, wasn't made especially with a Spyderco collaboration in mind), this maker usually shares some DNA with Spyderco's way of designing knives. lionSTEEL has a really different wa of designing, every goes in the looks and technicity of the production, but not much in the performance and ergonomics.
I've bought several lionSTEEL knives in the past, even bought the SpyMyto just to see. But marketing it as having a high hollow grind to take advantage of the high carbide volume steel that is M398 was the main reason. and it was flat, at more than 0.8mm behind the edge...

As far as Hail Mary go, I would like to see a lot of Schempp designs behind shipped to Italy, even if they have to iron out the kinks and take more time to release new designs by this way !
The Roadie XL is a very very good knife and it came from lionSTEEL's factory, so there must be a way to exploit their seemingly enormous production capacity without a lot of "pierced" lionSTEEL designs coming to fill it

Sage 6 in S90V. The Edgerati in both finishes. Military 2 in Magnacut. Harpy plain edge. Then the Native in 15V. Looks like it will be an unusual time of new model shopping for me. Maybe the vintage models may have to pause a little.
Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
Same shopping cart ! I'll have to throw in the Microjimbo bcause the design is excellent and I have been waiting for the 15V version for a year now. I think it's my most anticipated model from the reveal, with the Edgerati.Mini2white wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:55 pmSage 6 in S90V. The Edgerati in both finishes. Military 2 in Magnacut. Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
Very excited to see the Dragonfly in SPY27! Was hoping for the Wharncliffe version but this is still a win!
Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
the Sage 6 comes in S90V? the catalog says S30V.

Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
The standard version is S30V & CF/G10 laminate, but there's also a solid CF/S90V sprint.

Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
Sorry in advance... this has probably been asked and answered multiple times elsewhere.
But, is there any info about when the Sage 6 (in either S30v or S90v) will actually be available?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Reveal 17 - LIVE!
No need to be sorry! I / we sure get that you´re excited and can´t wait!
But I don´t think that anyone can answer your question - there are Spydies from earlier Reveals not available yet.
Could be (just a wild guess though!) that with Taichung knives it won´t take as long as momentarily with Golden ones (since Golden is still in the process of finishing (??) the enlargement of their facilities..)
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
