Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
Despite usually preferring small to medium knives I have rather large feet, so I hope they ship with large socks.
And for once I agree, a large sock can do everything a small sock can, but a small sock can't do everything a large sock can.

So are we at least all in agreement here that toe socks are a crime against humanity?

Ok serious question. This may have been brought up before so I apologize.
Do we already have this knife? The Centofonte has the same blade thickness as the Chaparral at 2mm. Delica is 2.5mm. Centofante is a hollow grind on top of the 2mm blade.
And I don't mean the Cruwear Sprint I'm currently looking for a deal on.

I´d really like to answer your question, but it honestly makes not a lot of sense to me? - No offense, but I am not entirely sure if you actually read what I said and if so in the right order before you posted your question:Mushroom wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:12 pm@Wartstein Serious question: If it's such rare niche of collector who does what you're talking about - why are you so concerned that they will suddenly out number the people who use them? 1.) I posted my slight concern that perhaps there might be just a small batch of HPD before Sal reassured us that there will be enough (not the other way round as you incorrectly make it to appear).
A concern others had too, as you can read.
As soon as Sal said they´d make enough I was completely satisfied and gave a positive reaction to that.
Later I explained to you what I had meant before Sals comment, as a reaction to your a bit unclear "collectors" post.
All plain to see and read.
2.) I did not say that there is "rare niche of collectors", but that there is a "particular niche of collectors who don´t use such rare knives" (and those particular niche could potentially acquire many of a small batch)
3.) It is a bit beyond me how one can read a "vilifying the very few who own but never use them" into my words...?

My initial concern was exactly that those could potentially NOT be just "very few" and as soon as I learned that there will be enough of the HPDs for all I was completely satisfied, positive and generally made very clear that I am perfectly fine with folks who enjoy their knives by "just" collecting, but never using them.
Hope this clears things up for you.
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

I may have my hopes up but I'd like to see a much higher hollow grind, but also I think part of the point (or at least the benefit of making a Delica) is to have a model that also has other blade grind variants that can serve as a direct comparison. We'd have at least 2 other blade grinds to compare to, FFG and flat saber grind.

That's a good point. Almost like a small mule team project on blade grinds instead of steels.Evil D wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 5:31 pmJSumm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 3:50 pmOk serious question. This may have been brought up before so I apologize.

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
Sock Guy socks aren't anywhere near as nice as DT (I live in VT, so they're my go-to), but they would totally make a Spyderco themed sock design for this!

Feetures brand socks are L & R pairs, with shaped elasticity in the arch area.SpeedHoles wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:56 pmWill there be a Left sock available for those southpaws out there?
I appreciate the left handed (footed?) sock, being goofy-foot myself ...though the term southpaw works for both, since paws are installed at all four corners of critters what got em'

Selfishly, I am excited for this to come out in VG10. The project is really exciting and I have no VG10 steel so I'm in. I am even more excited if they ship in socks instead of padded zipper pouches.

Spyderco: Tenacious G10, Waterway, Para 3 Spy27, Pacific Salt H1, Catcherman, In the Mule Team Stable(Z-Max, Z-Wear, S45VN, Magnacut, SRS13/SUS405, M398, Aeb-l, 15v)
Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
They're my go to as well. I would actually buy a pair of merino wool Darn Tough x Spyderco socks for every day of the week if they ever collaborated.

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
@Mushroom Remember that our European counterparts have far less ease of access to Spyderco product, especially limited production stuff and have to deal with stiff markup for what they can get in-EU, or high import duty (plus S&H) for stuff bought from the US and delivered to the EU.
If I was looking at this release from that perspective, I'd be more than a little worried that they'd all be gone before I had a chance to snag one!
Honestly, I feel that way about quite a few hotly contested Spyderco releases, even living in the US and having a job where I can use the internet for personal stuff during business hours, without getting fired.
As far as the socks, I love that Darn Tough is local, makes a great product and backs it with a warranty, but Smartwool socks fit me better
If they made the arch area just a bit more snug, they'd be perfect IMO.
I would however buy and wear a DT/Spydie sock!!

OK, so I basically said "collectors use their knives too" and that go blown out of proportion to the point we're at now.awa54 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:44 pm@Mushroom Remember that our European counterparts have far less ease of access to Spyderco product, especially limited production stuff and have to deal with stiff markup for what they can get in-EU, or high import duty (plus S&H) for stuff bought from the US and delivered to the EU.

When it happens again in the future, there is a famous quote from Mark Twain about arguing that I really need to start keeping in mind in those situations.

I'm there with you too, only three of my (too) many Spydies are still in the box (Pingo Ti, OG CruWear PM2 and HAP40 Delica), those are backups, since I intended to use all three of them regularly, but wanted to do that without fear of paying "collector" prices for a replacement if one was damaged or lost.Mushroom wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 9:08 pm

Knives that I either don't connect with, or don't want to thrash spend too much time in a drawer (not the sock drawer, I need room for socks!), but everything that "fits" for my EDC or lawn/garden/outdoor needs actually gets used in rotation since I always have a knife in my pocket whenever I'm not in a Hospital, Airport, or Government building.
But just like "collections" of wine, or watches, etc. with no real intent to ever use them as they were meant to be used ...maybe just for bragging rights or perceived investment value, I shake my head about unused knives, especially ones as capable as the majority of Spydercos are!

I'm doing this again, not sure why. Again, directed at no one in particular, but if you think it applies to you, it probably does.

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
No.
From long ago, before there were more accessible zero-drop dressier shoes, dress mode VFFs, with charcoal toe socks of course.

It had a medical benefit. Before I started wearing VFFs, I also walked with a cane. Raised heels, even in sneakers, were throwing off my posture and aggravating my lower back (hyper mobile lumbar disc). Switching to a flat sole let me get rid of that and start running again. I haven't needed a cane again since. With Vivobarefoot and Altra Running, the shoes look a bit more normal now. But, I still remember VFFs and toe socks fondly because of what improvements they allowed for me.
As for delivering a knife in socks, just a reminder to manage delivery expectations.

I don't want to assume it's a collector just because it didn't arrive in a box.
And, as for collecting, I guess I'm more of a hoarder than a collector. Even when there are many of a thing, I don't want to just own it, I want to use it. Though I already have two Delica, the only model where I have more than one, an HPD version may be interesting. I just hope the timing is right when it becomes available.
Re: High Performance Delica Excitement
Didn't know this was an off topic sock section of the forum... Can we at least get back to the knife or even the folks who will be getting this knife for no reason??
