Who's playing pickleball?

#1

Post by chuck_roxas45 »

I've been playing pickleball for almost a year now. I try to get in a few games daily.

Anybody else play pickleball?

My wife wanted a pickeball set for Xmas, so...looks like I'll be playing soon.

Don't know anything about it. Is it like tennis or ping pong? Can it be played on a lawn?

Hehehe. When the wife wants... :D

It's like tennis and pingpong had a love child. I actually didn't think that it would be as fun as tennis. Tennis and pingpong skills will definitely translate to pickleball but it has a different nuance when it comes to tactics.

It's kind of a whiffle ball tennis.

It is so good to be active. Your heart and cardiovascular system love you for the activity.

I'm 64 now, played tennis up until the age of 42, and ping pong in my teens. I have no pickleball gear and never played. I quit doing almost anything physical at around 42. Need to get my tail in gear on the treadmill this Winter.

I am sure that they play Pickle Ball around here. It's Winter now so tracking them down and getting involved is at best 4 months out from now. I'll see what I can do in 2025.

I'm going to be 60 early next year and have been sedentary for a few years. I started playing pickleball in January. I could barely play 2 games. After a couple of months of playing every day, I started walking 5km a day, then running that same distance. Then I started swimming. I got a fitness tracker and this little watch motivates me a lot to keep "my training levels" optimal for my age. I still try to get a few games in every day together with my other physical stuff.

I can also say that it was pickleball and the social activity that comes with it, was a lifesaver, after major depression and anxiety in 2023.

Fantastic! I need this.

I have cardiovascular issues, made it through open heart surgery in 2017. I also suffer from depression, and that is a whole nother thread. I'll give it a try.

It's worth asking your doctor before starting. Please do a little research as to what warm up exercises to do so that you can avoid injury.

I am also hypertensive and have congestive heart failure resulting in an enlarged heart. My resting heart rate was around 96-100 before I started playing.

This is my resting heart rate now.

Your heart rate looks excellent.

I should be OK. My doctors monitor me all year and if I call them they take me in immediately. They had me running on a treadmill less than a month after a 3-way bypass and new aortic valve. I also have cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

Every day is a blessing.

Indeed! Everyday is a blessing! You should be fine after that bypass but take it slow at first. You'll be kicking a** and taking names before too long. ;)

When my mom was bedridden I bought some card and board games to play. Last month, I thought that if I ever met anyone to date, I better have a set of pickleball and tennis racquets. So I bought the racquets for pickleball, which were under $100 for 2 paddles. Tennis racquets are a bit trickier as they need to be restrung every year or two....the strings loosen up and don't keep well, but at my age who would notice.
