Yep, I bought some RGT scales and replaced the ones on my S30v model. The only thing missing is 60 Vs. 😁

Wow, even the Shaman needs to lose weight? We're neck deep in lightweight models! Not saying that's a bad thing with inflation and all that, but I feel like the lightweight options are plentiful. It's to the point where it's hard to find normal everyday models. On ebay I usually have to skip over 5-10 lightweight versions of a given model to find one G10 version. I want the Tuff back! Or a larger Tusk! Hopefully the lighter weight Shaman loses weight in the blade and not everything else.

Anyway, I'm not even that crazy about the Shaman, but it's still an amazing knife. My burlap s90v was delivered, I'm just in the wrong state currently. I'll have it in a week.
Reading comprehension matters, I specifically said I'm glad a lighter weight not Lightweight Shaman version is in the works. And yeah, for me the Shaman will be better when some of the excess bulk is removed, right now it does pretty much the same thing, functionally, as something like the Para 2, but weighs 40% more. For me it's right over the line of causing mildly annoying pocket sag, but that's a personal gripe. If they can ditch some of the extra weight out of the blade and handle, and get it down to sub 3.75 oz, it will be perfect.

For context here's what Sal wrote on the topic on another thread, the "racing version" is the lighter weight, leaned out version that I'm excited about, the plastic fantastic is a different version.

......The Shaman is my design and there are 4 variations of the basic pattern in-the-works. The "racing" lighter version, (sucked out the weight and bulk), the Choil-less version and an frn version (less expensive) all of which I felt would serve particular preferences of or customers.

This is a pretty sweet knife. I did feel the need to disassemble and clean to improve the action. Keeping the pivot tight to avoid any play; it doesn't drop shut yet. Scales are so smooth.

That is a good looking combo.

Mine is quite stiff out of the box, but I won't be adjusting the pivot until I can find my blue loctite. The fit and finish is more or less perfect. Just the slightest big of back and forth lock rock, but not significant. Rock solid side to side. Glad I pulled the trigger.

Not the same knife, but can confirm! I thought about this one day myself and was going to add that to this thread, but I forgot. Great advice though in my opinion. Looks even better these days with the scales more worn in. This Shaman will look great.

For those who missed out but love the look of this exclusive, I can say the RGT scales are a pretty good substitute. A little less contouring and the color is very close. It really improves the base model's looks.

My scales above are also RGT. Big fan of all the variety they have to offer, as well as respectable prices.

Might have to jump on this one. Want a Shaman, probably only get one, is this the one to get?

So many nice ones out there like the new SPY-27, but this S90V (also M4) also has always interested me. Just too many nice versions of this knife to try and pick one. Is this one of the “better” variants?

Also I thought they never remade sport/exclusive runs?

I think its the BEST variant. S90V is my favorite as it holds an edge forever and it has excellent corrosion resentence. I have swapped the scales with the my Orange CTS-XHP, Its my go to hunting knife for field dressing deer. I may buy another one for when this one is worn out in 50 years.

I don't think there are any wrong answers, the Shaman has seen some of the best steel/handle combinations of any Spyderco. Even when other models got the same combo like the Cruwear and Micarta, it's just more special on the Shaman scales.

For me the CruCarta version is the king of Shamans.

Have to agree if I had my choice of any cruwear or z-wear would be on the top of my list. Unfortunately the way Spyderco knives are released you have to get what you can at the time, not that I am in a rush.

This feels like it’s nicer than the Blade HQ XHP available right now and maybe nicer than the SPY-27 but not sure about that as SPY-27 is a bit tougher which could be a plus for this type of knife. Price point might be my deciding factor but this S90V chance was pretty unexpected.

For anyone who owns it, how much texture is there to the scales?

EDIT: Price will be $299.99.

The only texture on my first run Burlap Micarta Shaman is the visual appearance of the burlap. There is no tactile texture besides the large radiused edge. By feel it’s all rather slick.

My Burlap hasn’t been carried more than a few times around the house, and the Crucarta is infrequently carried due to it sometimes slipping during handling.

I put drumstick wax on my Crucarta Shaman after reading rave reviews of sexwax, but it didn’t do much. I’m sure that clammy hands would do better, but I don’t have that outside of summer.

I’ll probably get or make new scales someday for these.

Oh cool, I didn't know these were coming back. I scored one from the 1st run, it's such a cool knife. The burlap looks awesome, feels great. Not as "fuzzy" as the crucarta texture. Not as smooth as polished G10 or flat Seki cf.
Had I not just ordered a 2nd Military 2 Sprint (CF/S90V) I would be strongly considering picking up a backup Shaman; a Bodacious in this configuration would be sweet.
