The Military 2 CF S90V Sprint has me wondering

#1

Post by dullmaker »

I’ve the Military 2 CF S90V Sprint inbound. I own the Para 3 and Yojumbo CF S90v beauties as well. I agree with Sal that S90V and Carbon Fiber is a special combination. Expect for the S90V/154 composite blade version, has Spyderco ever given the regular Manix 2 the same treatment?

Sadly no , there have been two exclusives with different steels and types of CF . MG2

CF S90V Manix 2 was a sprint run in 2009. 400 produced.

I owned The Cutlery Shoppe Manix 2 Lightweight exclusive which had the orange FRN scales and might have had CPM-S90V (I just checked and it was CPM-S90V) for the blade steel but I honestly can't recall atm because I sold it years ago. I know it wasn't CTS-XHP like some of their other exclusives but being that CPM-S90V is the best of the best steel ever and no one will ever change my mind, the fact that I sold a knife with a big ole blade in my favorite steel sorta says how I feel about the Manix 2. At least the lightweight version. I've never even held one with liners and G10. Although, now that I think about it, I think it was more the "lightweight" that I disliked rather than the Manix 2 design itself. I like my knives to feel substantial and sturdy. Not that the Manix 2 lightweight isn't sturdy, I'm sure it is but FRN scales, imo, should stay on knives with back locks rather than compression locks. It just doesn't give me the same confidence of the double lined, G10 scales but I admittedly am a snob when it comes to my knives and the materials used to make them and of course I have my own likely irrational biases and opinions about the different ones.

Anyway, I digress, the point of this comment was to say that I also have the CF/S90V Millie 2 Sprint otw. Should be here tomorrow. I also have a PM2 that I've frankensteined from that teal G10/DLC S90V distributor exclusive and standard black G10 scales as well as a Para 3 that I've frankensteined from a Para 3 lightweight distributor exclusive with S90V blade and some really spot on aftermarket marbled CF scales that fit better than any of the stock Spyderco scales of any material that I own. I wish I could remember where I got those scales because they really deserve a shout out if they're still around but it was probably 5 or 6 years ago and my memory fails me. I was there and paying attention when the factory CF/S90V Para 3 Sprint dropped but I had no extra money at the time. Same with the Shaman CF/S90V Sprint. That would have been a heckuva knife but at $300 5 years ago it was out of reach as well. So, when I saw that CF/S90V Millie 2 Sprint in the catalog, I was determined to get my mitts on one so I'm really stoked that I did.

I realize now that this comment is kinda pointless, especially for the topic of the thread but I already typed it so I'm just gonna send it. Also, I'm not intending on trying to ruffle any feathers by my opinions of different Spyderco Knives, they're all high quality, well thought out designs usually with a specific task or philosophy of use in mind. I just so happen to really like the entire Military series down to the Para 3, which is my daily user atm. Well, one of them. I think I've acquired 8 or 9 of them by now. Same with PM2s. Never owned the first Military but when the Millie 2 with comp lock was announced and released I hopped on that one without even thinking and I love it. So I'm really excited about this Sprint Run.

If you've read this far, I apologize but you deserve a thank you and a hand shake.

Thanks for the answer. Sal, can we please get another Manix 2 CF in S90V since last one was 2009?
Thanks
