Just got a Subvert, awesome; quickly one of my favorite knives. I thought it could be a good hiking knife, with that bolo shape, ...be able to do some light chopping, like cutting small, soft branches and plants in the way of the path, etc.

Did some firm chops against a cardboard box comparing the Subvert with a Spyderco Swayback, and a Shirogorov F3. The Subvert made the deeper cuts, but to my surprise the blade was damaged....(nothing happened to the other ones.) User error? s30v too soft? :neutral

That is pretty weird - I’ve hacked at all manner of things with S30V knives including hardwood (very very hard wood - Tembusu) branches and it was unaffected.

Maybe there was some secret staple or other metal thing deeper down? This happening on cardboard is not something I would expect even on some trashy untreated steel

checked it again, just 2 layers of cardboard edge, from a box. Longest cut here is the Subvert, slices like a demon...the other cuts are from other knives. No staples or railroad tracks....

EDIT: I tried the Subvert again against the box, and the box is dying, bleeding badly. The blade is intact. I must have hit something unawares when hiking. It was not the box. All good for the vert. Love it!

I've used my Subvert for a while now and really like it but I can't help but think they should have bevelled the scales further. The squared off edge combined with the exposed liner is just not ideal.

You don't want to be sanding carbon fiber (or other composites like G10). Unless you have some kind of respirator to keep dust out of your lungs.
