Spyderco Janisong

#1

Post by dkexplorer »

Based on my research, the Janisong only come with CPM C30V. Due to the restrictions in the US market, there is not much discussion out there.

I recently purchased one from a reputable consignment with CST XHP. Is this variant legit?

Any information is highly appreciated.

Dear dkexplorer:

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

Arizona Custom Knives is certainly a reputable dealer; however, I do not know of any legitimate production of the JaniSong marked CTS XHP.

Stay safe,

Mike

Thanks for the confirmation Michael. Is there any plan to produce the knife for the US market?

I know you are the go to when it comes to the Janisong but when I compare my versions to the pictures that OP uploaded I can’t find a single differing design feature that would lead me to believe the knife isn’t legitimate apart from the marking that denoted CTS XHP. This would have to be the absolute best counterfeit ever or maybe the knife is real. I almost wonder if the factory made one on the “night shift” in a steel that the worker preferred. It wouldn’t be the first time something like this has occurred in overseas production…

Hey, Rinzler:

I agree that the knife looks legit and is technically consistent with the construction details of a Spyderco JaniSong. Unfortunately, that's all I can offer. I don't have visibility on any prototypes that might have been made, plans for making it in steels other than CPM S30V, etc. What's weird to me is that, if that was a true unicorn and the seller knew it, why did they ask such a low price? Also, why did ACK remove the listing entirely?

Stay safe,

Mike
