My original c3 has a kick/nub on the lock bar. Does this one not have that?

Mine is on the way.

Slightly offtopic, to me this remains the best hollow grind ever done by Spyderco, would love to see something similar again at some point.

I should probably recognize it, but I'm not fully caffeinated yet so I'm just not able to. What is it?

It does, and under normal use it does keep the edge from hitting anything, but if you press the lock bar in while closed and press the blade in at the same time, the edge can and will make contact with the lock bar.

This is one of those weird scenarios like when your kid comes to you and says "daddy daddy, when I jam my thumbs into my eyes really hard it hurts!" and then you say "why would you ever do that in the first place?". I still can't imagine why this happened at all, it should be something most of us never discover. It may well be an issue with the originals, I can't say because I can't take them apart to see.

It would appear that I can also press in both the lockbar and blade on my original C3, but I’m not sure why I would want to!

Right. The only scenario I can think of is someone squeezing the knife in their fist really hard for whatever reason. It's not something that will happen just from opening and closing and using the knife, so I'm kinda baffled as to how the dings got in the edge from the factory. But going forward I don't expect it to be a concern.

Not that I'd do it with a Centofante, especially the sprint, but I've used closed folders to hammer things before with the butt end. On lockbacks without kicks that prevent the blade from hitting the lockbar, it can ding the edge when doing this.

Another time this sometimes happens for me is using a saw or other tools on swiss army knives. the blades can contact the back spring when using the saw. easy to be mindful of sitting in an office, less so with gloved hands starting a fire in the snow.

we all use our tools differently.

I wonder if simply letting the blade snap closed inadvertently causes the edge to contact the lockbar... Just a theory.

Similar to the Stretch 2 XL Nishijin Sprint where letting the blade snap closed was enough force to cause it to contact the lanyard tube resulting in a flat spot on the edge.

Yeah I really meant how did this happen during production. I've also done both of what you described here.

Mine has that same little flat spot you guys describe. Really must be a production issue.

Overall I think the knife is incredibly well made and a terrifically capable gents folder. Very classy and capable.

Whilst you’ve got it apart I would be tempted to thin out the lock bar at the offending section just a little.

Yep I'm planning on doing just that, but if you squeeze hard enough it will still make contact beyond that, most likely on the lock spring.

To Anyone who has this knife in their possession, could they please confirm if it’s a hollow grind or not.

Go back a few posts and you will see that it’s already confirmed to be a flat grind.

I could live with this little weakness in the design, as it should be possible to avoid the issue with mindful use.
I’m actually more surprised and sort of disappointed that it has full liners with no skeletonization.

Not that I can justify getting this one anyway, it will get absurdly expensive before I can pick it up at my post office here in Norway But I am of course hopeful that the effort put into updating this design doesn’t stop with this very limited release and would like to see it trickle out to more widely distributed versions.

I feel like a gent's knife could be light or heavier, I see benefits of both. Light obviously because if you're carrying this in lightweight dress slacks then you don't want a heavy knife flopping around but then people do associate weight with quality sometimes and that's how this one feels to me. It's lighter than my Ayoob, 3.4oz vs 4.7oz and my Ayoob doesn't even have a pocket clip. Who knows I might get adventurous and drill out the scales myself.

wow that clip really fits the aesthetic well. I was planning on putting a lynch clip on it because the clip it comes with just doesnt look right to me, but I might hunt down one of the zt0609 clips from MXG instead
