Really good @sal quote. Isn’t there a thread for great Sal quotes in this forum?

Hi Marius,

Sorry for the confusion. I got some models mixed up. I'd been carrying the Sage in SPY27, but it was the Rex 121 piece that I was referring to making in thinner. I had my sample, but had misplaced it. I now have it in my pocket and I'll start thinning it out as I sharpen it.

sal
Sal,

What are your initial thoughts on 121, if your looking to make it thinner it’s must be tough enough not to be chipping too much?

Also great choice on the scale color, looks great in the photos.

I suppose those would be in the Talkin' Story thread.

Hi Mikey,

Many of these lines will go onto "Happy Thoughts" coins when the website is revamped and up and running. The "Talkin' Story" is usually a history of the product being discussed.

Hey WilliamMunny,

I've not used it much yet. I'd like to use the original edge to see how long it takes to no longer shave. I'll bring it down to 20 degrees ( 10 DPS ) to test it.

Coins? Kind of like challenge coins? If so can at least one be made from copper?

Sal,

Thats crazy to hear, I would not put one of my EDC Spyderco knives down to 10 DPS let alone something like REX-121. But I guess by going to extremes it you can really tell what it is capable of. I have been a fan of Maxamet on my 3" knives I have (Para 3 and Native 5) so REX-121 is exciting, if just for the fact it is pushing what knife steel is capable of. Thanks

I just got the G10 and I know someone mentioned the G10 edges being beveled but it’s more than that! The edges of the spine and the opening hole are both beveled as well and not just “broken,” an actual chamfer. I think it’s a really nice touch all-around! ;)

The quality of that pic took a hit but the edge catching light is the face of the bevel.

Very nice! The Sage 5 keeps getting more and more tempting. I can't imagine one kicking my Native 5 out of my pocket, but who knows. :cheap-sunglasses

I was pretty sold on the LW until I saw this picture, now second guessing myself. They really did a great job.

I have really strange luck with SPY27 models, man. Every one I’ve gotten, since the SPY27 Manix LW, has had a noticeable amount of lock stick and this sage 5 lw carries that tradition. I took it apart and gave the stop pins a twist…still there. I’m thinking it’ll probably break in at some point so I’ve been carrying and opening/closing it a ton to try and work that out of it.

.0235 is what I got on the shoulder, by hand with my highest quality South American River calipers. Measured tip, middle and heel…all three were .022 to .0250. I would like to say I don’t consider these measurements to be accurate with any level of certainty or precision.

Did your knife have the lock stick one of the poster above said his did?

Is the G10 version thicker than the LW? I don't see width listed on the website. thanks,

Dunno about the thickness comparison, but my knife is flawless as far as I can discern. Seriously I can’t overstate the combo of finish and the “new” details (re: beveled edges on G10 and blade) are as good as any Spydie I’ve ever owned. Swapped the clip for a Lynch clip, as is my preference, and this thing is good to go.

Good grief! I wish I'd seen that before I ordered the LW. I just spent my first day with it and compared to my modified S30V version, it feels sooooo crisp. I was literally just thinking about how I'm going to need to crown the spine and chamfer the hole...

(Here they are together.)
