Put some vaseline on it. The paraffin in it will not come off easily and will keep the knife rust free. I live in a salty, topical, near equatorial area. Vaseline works wonders for me.Jeb wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 9:01 amYou can Rit-dye the plum colored scale black easy enough also. I am not a big fan of the coated blades either, but if my k390- Police4 had the DLC coating on it, that would help it alot.
This summer it has been so hot here in Texas that the side of the blade that sits against your leg while in your pocket will and does actually rust badly... Even with regular wipe down with an oily rag.
I really like the K390 steel, enough so that I am thinking on have this company that does DLC coating, blast prep and coat the blade on my Police4 with the K390 steel.
As mentioned already, it's just money. As for the Endura, I have a couple of them and like them alot. Can't go wrong with any of them I my opinion for what that's worth to you...

Re: Ready for an Endura
I'll chime in a little more.
I recently picked up a few M4 BHQ Enduras, and all of them had some of the wonkiest edge grinds that I've ever seen from Spyderco, to the point that, I'm in the process of completely regrinding the primary bevels, due to scratching the TiCN coating when attempting to correct the edge bevels in sharpening. So, if you don't mind the potential of losing the TiCN coating, the M4 is a great price otherwise, and you won't have to worry much about pivot corrosion thanks to the rest of the coating, which can be the biggest PITA for the Seki linered FRN models.
I find K390 to be incredibly corrosion prone, and I live in the South West US, that is known to be dry. Any coating I've applied to it gets ran right through after less than an hour of carry within my sweaty pocket. The performance is outstanding, but the hassle of removing rust every day is a real mellow harsher. Even M4 stands up noticeably better than K390 for whatever reason, and whilst you give up raw edge retention, I find you gain more toughness and edge stability in M4 at thinner edge geometries.
PD1. Just buy the darn thing. The coating is fine and aids exceptionally well for corrosion resistance, IME. Satin CruWear has rusted in my pocket, but this coated PD1 has been just fine. Even so, I do apply beeswax to the blade every two days for good measure. If greater sharpening response and less fuss over abrasives used, a huge increase in toughness, a huge increase in corrosion resistance, much less need for maintenance and upkeep overall is in your "Pros" category, PD1 is the perfect choice of the bunch, for you.
If you're worried about choices of colorway, you aren't asking for the differences in performance, so just buy with your eye. Colors can be changed to preference incredibly easy, steel performance cannot (so easily).

Re: Ready for an Endura
K390 gets my vote as it's the only steel I've felt like was a noticeable upgrade from M4, but I really wish they'd do a coated run. M4 TiCN Endura is a great buy if you can stand the color.
Cruwear has a big following, but I'd rather M4 or K390 any day. This one's been in my pocket all weekend.

I'm really surprised at the dislike for the PD1 purple and black. I think it looks incredible, much better than the ubiquitous black and silver.
Re: Ready for an Endura
I'll throw a little extra into the mix. I have an Endura in ZDP-189. It's great and although discontinued, it's still probably findable with a little searching. Also, IMO you shouldn't eliminate VG-10 from your consideration. It's still the flagship steel for this model, has excellent corrosion resistance, is easy to sharpen and available in several colors.

Re: Ready for an Endura
I agree about the VG-10. I have it in a few different models, and I am very happy with it.
Re: Ready for an Endura
I’ve used k390 in several other models and also have the M4 Endura. Really enjoy both steels and the differences I’ve noticed aren’t large enough to separate them out functionally, at least for my uses. Rit dyed the M4 a nice forest green. If you can stand the mint color or are ok dying it (it’s super easy, was only my second dye job and took under 15 min all told) then I’d seriously consider the M4 FWIW. Endura and dragonfly are my favorite models so enjoy whichever way you go!

Just because: https://www.bentoboxshop.com/images/PE_ ... Endura.jpg $125...
As far as edge retention the Hap40 will fall between PD1 and K390. Laminated blade instead of coating, nice color scales to boot.
Edit to add pic of mine...
If its strictly between your mentioned choices you can't go wrong with K390.

Do you all think right now around the world people are using Enduras?

Re: Ready for an Endura
I don't really get the question, but this one people on this one spot on the planet has carried and used my TRL Endura since I left my office three hours early to go fishing with my son. And it will remain my carry for the rest of the day, not unlike many other days as of late.
Re: Ready for an Endura
Carrying my VG10 right now, and interestingly enough probably my wife's favorite (to my surprise).

Re: Ready for an Endura
If theres still any serrated k390 enduras available that would be an interesting option. They were discontinued and I doubt will come back.

I understand. Been thinking about trying another regrind if I can find someone who's still doing them and does quality work. I bet yours is a real slicer.Catchadroppimgknife wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 2:34 pmI actually don’t remember - I got it a year ago off a sale forumpetz462 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:29 pmCatchadroppimgknife wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:30 pmThere are many to choose from (All excellent!) — here’s a couple

It is!!!
I looked through my notes but can’t find any info on the regrinder … sorry. The scales came from the Etsy guy from the Ukraine - great work, great communications, and fairly fast work!

Re: Ready for an Endura
If you are only getting 1 then id go with K390 easily, PD#1 is basically cruwear which is an awesome steel too so you cant go wrong with it but the edge retention of the K390 is a lot better, doesnt roll or chip easy, and its plenty tough for a folder, cruwear/PD#1 might be tougher but basically you probably wont notice that toughness difference unless you are doing stuff you shouldnt do with a knife anyways and are you going to notice that you were able to pry with a bit more force on one over the other before they both break? the PD#1 while not stainless with be a lot more corrosion resistant, K390 is not good at all in that area but its easy to avoid with maintenance.
