I don’t want to muck up the thread but if you would like a comparison shot send me a PM . MG2WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 2:01 pmMight be a stupid question but what are the bigger differences between the Sage 5 and the Chaparral?
Seem very similar in size, lock, geometry, etc.

Dan, your call, but I don't think it would muck up the thread. I think it would be interesting and relevant, because may perception that the Sage is a good deal larger sounds like it might be wrong.

The Chap is quite a lot thinner of a knife. That's what I remember from back when I had both.

Nailed it Rick , main reason I enjoy it in my right pocket . I’m not really much of a small knife guy but appreciate their usefulness for smaller jobs . I really would like to add a smaller knife in SE and main reason I have followed this thread . Look forward to impressions in the future . Dan

I agree, these serrations on this knife look great. Hope to see some good feedback on this knife. Looking at you D!!

Re: Chaparral LW SE
Chap is thinner and its blade shape is a bit narrower relative to the blade length. It makes it more maneuverable. I’m probably repeating myself, but in my opinion it makes a huge difference when dealing with tasks of utmost importance such as peeling a mango at work.
Sage completely sucks at mango peeling. Chap, delica and UKPK are killer mango peelers.

Re: Chaparral LW SE
The Sage looks as much bigger as I thought. To me, it is more in the Delica/Native size range, and the Chap is closer to a Dragonfly, but with almost Delica blade length. There is no doubt I will try one, and the rounder serrations are another bonus.

I think in terms of ergonomics chap is the closest to calypso jr.
I recently received my first calypso jr. and I was really surprised how similar to chaparral it feels in hand, given the differences. I definitely overpaid for it, but I was just too curious. I wish it was regular production.

Nice find Mat!
I love the fish scale FRN of the Calypso JR. No jimping. Lightweight and great edge geometry. Definitely an underrated classic.
