I got mine in today. I like it a lot. The edge is excellent and I can not find any flaws anywhere. The color wasn't my first choice but seeing it in my hand I like it. The coating is going to make an easy to maintain steel even easier.

Years ago I picked this as my all time knife/steel combo . I still think it is but it won't stop me from buying new knives in steels I like.

Thank you Sal and Eric for finally making my perfect knife. An unlimited budget and custom maker couldn't make one I want more . Funny thing is it came the same day as my first grandchild was born so I was already in a good mood.

I just noticed that on the SFO page for the knives that are available (endura and endela)it says "Additional discounts not applicable for this item". Which in the past has meant no opfocus discount.

Does anyone know if this is a mistake, if it only applies to this series (pd1), or if it's a change going forward for all sprints? I know in the past few years they've changed some things about opfocus, but I hadn't heard anything about no longer giving the discount on Sprint runs. I'm hoping this is a mistake; the super blue delicate appears to still allow the opfocus discount.

I think that is the new policy... no OpFocus discount on Sprint Runs. I don't think the SpyMyto was discounted for OpFocus either. Perhaps the recent Super Blue Sprint Exclusives were grandfathered in because they were available prior to the new rules?

I decided to pick up the Endura as a carry option for this Sprint Run. I made a thread asking sal for a S2XL LW in Cruwear, but after carrying the model for the better part of a year, found that the overall lightness and lack of liners lead to less confidence than the Endura for tasks that needed a bit of muscle behind them. I also prefer a knife sans finger-choil. As waiting for DLT to put out their exclusive OD FRN/Cruwear variant, or a Gray FRN/CW Sprint Run seem less-likely to happen, I'm happy to be able to get an equivalent, even in a different color format. At some point I'd like a non-coated variant to hit the market, but that's a personal preference and my only real subjective nitpick. The knife is very well done in all other objective ways. A thank you, Spyderco and the Seki-City workers is in order.

Regarding the color, it certainly is on the purple end of the "burgundy" spectrum. In the video above it is described as "plum", which seems more reasonable to have named it, besides just purple. I do notice that the color will change from a darker shade in a lower light setting, and will brighten to quite a vibrant purple in a well lit setting, and especially so in direct sunlight; so much so that in fact I was asked just yesterday, "when did you get a pink knife?". In case anyone is curious, the liners are not coated, at least in my Endura. Looking forward to maybe grabbing a Delica to go along with this Endura.

I thought I'd not like the color but seeing it in my hand has changed it. I'm hoping there are still Enduras around after I get paid so I can buy a second one. I'm thinking about passing one down to my first grandson now that I have one. Of course this is kind of an excuse on my part. I have a strong feeling that when he is old enough to carry a knife it will be a Spyderco.

Just ordered the Endela as a little friendly competition for my DLT OD Green/Black Cruwear Endela. Might have to do the same with the Dfly when it gets released. A fine pair to draw to...

For the record, there is no "CTS-PD#1." The proper name of the steel is "Micro-Melt PD#1." Since "PD1" and "BD1" sound so much alike--even though they're totally different--it helps to differentiate the two. In practice, however, that mistake unfortunately happens a lot.

Stay safe,

Carpenter Technology (CarTech, trademarked in 1968) seems to muddy the waters with their own nomenclature. They have been using Micro-Melt in 1972 and then adopted CTS (Carpenter Technology Sintered?) in 2010 to be similarly named (?) like Crucible CPM (Crucible Particle Metallurgy). In their Datasheets for CTS alloys, they use the term Micro-Melt extensively, almost interchangeably to describe their powder metal steels. Somewhat confusing, but understandable considering Carpenters major investment in the PM cutlery steel market some 15 years ago. As Mike said, CTS and Micro-Melt are just their names to allow us to identify and talk about them.

I just checked carpenter's product explorer and it seems they give the CTS moniker only to cutting application steels.

At the same time, the CTS steels are not necessarily powder metallurgy (BD1, BD1N, 40A, BDZ1).

They also have equivalent non-cts steels for some of those, eg: CTS-204P = MicroMelt 20-4, CTS-XHP = MicroMelt 440XH

And yes, there is no CTS-PD#1 (or any other than MicroMelt PD#1)

Micro-Melt is Carpenter’s designation for Powdered Metallurgy just like CPM is for Crucible (CPM 20CV) and MICROCLEAN is for Bohler (K390).

While Spyderco stamps their folders as Micro-Melt PD#1 it doesn’t stamp them as Micro-Melt Maxamet (just MAXAMET all caps).

Wow I learned something today thanks @RamZar so some get the maker’s name and some just get just the steel. I wonder why they do that. Maybe to save space when writing it out.

Bought an Endela to give to a friend of mine. Never handled an Endela before though so I'll have to finger it up for a day or two and then wipe it clean before I send it off to it's new home.

Really torn between the police and the stretch. Haven’t had a chance to handle either of them. Can only afford one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really like the PM2 if that helps anyone in their suggestions. Also big FOMO if I keep waiting on the stretch which looks like it’s coming out last.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about FOMO. The Endura and Endela PD#1 Sprint Runs have been out for about 3 weeks now and they're still readily available at most dealers even after the Spyderco Summer Sale discounts which ended on July 17th.
