Brains huh? I’ve seen that on the show “Alone” where some of the contestants eat them and I’m pretty adventurous so I’ll let you know… I mean you did turn me on to zucchini bread after all 😉

Appears to be banded ? Dan
Came off the federal Endangered Species List in 2019; populations are still recovering and closely monitored. Would guess a lot of them are still being banded.

Had a similar experience looking for Piping Plovers a couple years back and trying to pick them out from all the other shorebirds up on a Lake Superior beach.

Wife: "Is that it?"
Me: *squinting through binoculars* "Well, I count...three bands on the right leg and two on the left, so, yeah, I would guess that's the endangered one."

Also I was shooting an idea for a calendar photo last night and spotted this really cool looking “leopard slug.” Wish I took more photos of it, the pattern was really cool looking.

Image I went to check rain gauge this morning and this monster was attached to screen on back door . I’m clueless , guess it was taking advantage f porch light attracting small insects to prey on . Dan

That’s a Dobson Fly, it is the adult form of a Hellgrammite. When they’re in their larval stage as “hellgrammites,” they make really good fishing bait.

I remember waking up to a Dobsonfly on the outside of my hammock during a canoe trip down the Buffalo River when I was in high school. Heck of a way to wake up, better than a cup of coffee!

That one looks like a female; the males will have larger pincers.

I think the back porch light attracted the Dobson and then feasting on smaller insects . Dan
