What was your first Spyderco
Re: What was your first Spyderco
Sharpmaker, no lie. Not the 204, but an earlier version that only had one set of holes to hold the rods upright at circa 40 degrees.
My first Spyderco knife was a ZDP Delica 4 in British racing green, a gift from my father in 2007. I still have it.

Mine was a Gen 1 50/50 Endura in AUS-8. I think I left it in a truck that I traded in back in 2017.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
My first Spyderco was a GB1 in 2015. I previously had gotten a Benchmade Big Summit Lake in S30V, which, while fancy, had some conflicting design features that made it not very usefull. After much forum research I decided to get a knife in CPM M4, and I was considering the BM Contego and the Spyderco GB1 (years previous I had seen a photo of the GB1 in a Field and Stream book, and was appalled by its ugliness). According to the forums, it seemed that Spyderco had the better heat treat, and that the BM M4 was more prone to chipping. I eventually decided to get the GB1, despite its looks.
It arrived, and HOLY COW I was surprised. I had no idea that a knife could be so good. It was smooth and locked up perfectly and stoutly, like a fixed blade. The steel (especially with that grind) held up super well and cut things exceedingly well. I soon learned the value of a knife designed for the hands (vs. designed for the eyes), and I was hooked. Later bought an S35VN linered Native 5 G10 to have a shorter blade, and the rest is history. Now it's just Spyderco for the EDCs, and Cold Steel for the big knives.

First one was an olive drab Delica combo edge in 2003. I didn’t know it was a sprint run and really liked the looks. I carried it a lot until I lost it in a movie theater around 2009. I was amazed at how long it kept cutting compared to other brands I’d had growing up.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
My first Spyderco was not my first knife.
I bought a Case knife and used it in self defense at around 7 to 9 years of age. A friend of my grandmother's worked as a food inspector and he gave me a 3.5 to 4 inch folder. And when in college I bought a Randal Model #14. I had many more knives after that.
My first Spyderco was a Native 5 in Maxamet I think.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
About 37 years ago I found my first Spyderco, the stainless CoPilot I carried and used for years while doing aerial mapping photography all over the west including 119 missions in Mexico. It is pictured here next to my current carry, the K390 Dragonfly I’ve been carrying exclusively for more than a year.

This was my first Spyderco, a Delica 4 Wharncliffe in S30V. It cut so well that it's been joined by many more

Re: What was your first Spyderco
My first was a Delica 1 combo edge, gifted to me by my brother after he retired from the army. Said he couldn’t keep an edge on it.
First one I actually purchased was a Delica 4. I CAN keep an edge on it…
Also of note - our father was the quintessential knife guy, who always had one on him. Would use the blade until it was gone. He never owned a Spyderco knife, usually just traditional slip joints of various patterns. Several years after our father died, another brother sent me some pictures of a plastic pouch he’d found in a box at Dad’s house. A #202 Tri-Angle Ceramic Sharpening System. All the pieces still inside, along with the instructions / mail order form for replacement parts. (FWIW, $14.95 for the Tri-Angle system, $10.95 for the Crock Stick version.)

Re: What was your first Spyderco
I'm not even certain but in modern times it may have been the blue Tenacious (for those who remember when that model first came out). Since then Spyderco models have pushed all of my other EDC knives out. Previous to that I wasn't buying as many knives but I bought one of the original Goddard folders with black micarta scales, early 1990s.

First and currently only, FRN Endura in VG-10. It doesn't leave me much reason to get another pocket knife, but the Native Chief and the Paramilitary 2 are on my list if I ever stop putting all my expendable money into kitchen cutlery.

I carried a 110/112 combo for decades. Then, my curiosity finally led me to aquire a PARA3 LW BD1N. The second I slow rolled the blade and gripped it I was a convert. Then I used it and discovered the full flat experience - knew I was gonna need more.
Then I bought a Native 5 LW, and resistance became futile. I am an addict.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
A Ladybug from Smokey Mt Knifeworks. Back 1993 before the internet, I found out about Spyderco in their catalog. All Spydercos were selling out quickly and I had to call them weekly to find out if any new ones had come in. I finally scored my first Spyderco Ladybug with serrations.

Now...when I am thinking about it...it was a fixed blade Ronin approximately 20 years ago.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
I've been using a Spyderco Santoku for the past 18 years, but my first Spyderco folders were the SpydieChef and Resilience in the same purchase in 2018.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
