Blade finish
Re: Blade finish
When it's a smooth polished stonewash like on the Maxamet Para 2 I'd choose that.
If it's the usual rough stonewash I prefer satin (especially hand rubbed).
So it goes polished stonewash > hand rubbed satin > cnc satin > belt satin > usual stonewash

Re: Blade finish
I like both the satin and stonewash finishes, but if I had to choose one, it would be the stonewash.
I don't like the black blade finishes, I have a assisted open, Protech 5" blade, duty knife I used for years, love the knife, just hate the finish on the blade.

Re: Blade finish
I didn’t vote… I prefer satin however at my age, I look for coated these days. Here’s why, on a sunny days any glare off the blade blinds me for nearly a minute. I don’t drive at night anymore and wear sun glasses in the grocery store because it’s so bright.
Stone washed is better than nothing but not great… Getting old just ain’t for wimps and old age turns you in to one.

Whatever turns you on, cupcake.

Re: Blade finish
I didn't vote, because I like both fairly equally, as long as the stonewash is smoothly polished.
The blade finish I DO NOT like is bead-blasted.

Re: Blade finish
In my experience bead blast is the worst finish for corrosion resistance. At one point I liked the subdued look but for functionality it's not my preference anymore.
Re: Blade finish
stonewashed or coated all day every day. i actually really don't care for satin blades much at all. i just happen to like spyderco more than i dislike satin blades.

Re: Blade finish
I like stonewash, like on the Swayback, but blade finish is not a deciding factor for me.

Agreed! Although stonewash finish reminds me of galvanized rain chutesWilliamMunny wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 8:31 amOnly thing i can add is that I defiantly like satin or stonewashed over any coating.

Re: Blade finish
I'm a satin finish guy but a satiny stonewash is okay. I do not like mirror polished or dark coatings.
Re: Blade finish
Both but I am leaning more towards the sating (voted). I think that some ugly scratches can be more easily repaired on the satin, than on the stonewash. Another thing, I do love K390 and patina looks really nice on the satin finish. On the other hand, my G10 Manix and Native 5 LW, both have stonewash and I do reach for them very often, sometimes even just to marvel about the stonewash finish.

Re: Blade finish
I didn’t vote since have no big issues with either type of finish as long as it is consistent. MG2

Re: Blade finish
I prefer stonewash and DLC because of the workhorse type character it gives the blade.
